Nurse Robbie Busts 5 Common Myths About Diabetes

In the most recent issue of the American Diabetes Wholesale Newsletter, diabetes educator and Destination Diabetes contributor Robbie Kleinman dispels five common myths about diabetes. The more you know about diabetes the better, but sometimes one is inundated with misinformation about the symptoms and treatment. Nurse Robbie addresses some of the well-known myths, from when to test blood glucose levels to what to eat in her article,”Nurse Robbie Busts 5 Common Myths About Diabetes.”

GlucoStories Winner Announced

American Diabetes Wholesale’s GlucoStories contest has announced the winning entry! After our judges selected the finalists and our visitors voted on their favorite inspirational diabetes story, we are proud to announce that Brian Harris is the first ever GlucoStories winner! Brian’s story is titled “Live Like You Were Dying” and describes the harrowing experience of how his undiagnosed diabetes led to a massive heart attack at the young age of 33, and changed his outlook on life. Take a moment and check out the winning GlucoStories entry. American Diabetes Wholesale congratulates Brian Harris on winning a trip to the Firestone Indy Lights Championship Race at the Homestead-Miami Speedway!

American Diabetes Wholesale partnered with Charlie Kimball, a 24-year old Indy Lights race car driver and who has Type I diabetes, back in May to launch GlucoStories. The idea behind GlucoStories was to have together individuals living with diabetes or supporting someone with diabetes share their personal stories and inspire others.

American Heart Association Reveals New Heart Healthy Guidelines for Sugar

Marlene Koch, RD has written an interesting piece for the American Diabetes Wholesale Newsletter that reviews the new dietary guidelines as recommended by the American Heart Association. In her article “New Heart Healthy Guidelines for Sugar“, Marlene describes how the new guidelines closely reflect those set forth by the American Diabetes Association, especially in regards to the reduction of added sugars in the American diet. Added sugars are those high-calorie, low nutrition additives that are found in some of the obvious foods such as soda or pastries, but they also lurk in more overlooked products too, such as reduced fat salad dressing or snack bars.Check out her full article for more information about this important nutrition news.

Marlene Koch has also provided a low-sugar version of a summer time favorite – Sweet Smoky Barbecue Sauce. This tasty recipe does not take long to prepare and will have everyone eager to learn what the secret ingredients are!
