Sleep Apnea and Diabetes

In this week’s American Diabetes Wholesale newsletter, we are featuring a special guest author, Dr. Glenn R. Singer, Director of the Sleep Disorder Center of the Broward General Medical Center, who has expert insight into the effects of sleeping problems on people with diabetes. It is well-known that diabetes can cause many other symptoms, but Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) is sometimes overlooked as it is a significantly undiagnosed condition, especially among obese individuals with type 2 diabetes. Sleep apnea is a serious condition, and studies indicate that the stress caused by abnormal breathing is related to insulin resistance and affect morning glucose levels. Check out Dr. Singer’s article “A Better Night’s Sleep Can Help Diabetes” for more information on diabetes and sleep apnea.
