August 6-9, 2008 are approaching fast. These are the days of the American Association of Diabetes Educators (AADE) annual meeting in Washington D.C. This conference provides educational and networking opportunities for diabetes educators. American Diabetes Wholesale is excited to be attending the show again this year. Last year’s conference in St. Louis was a great success!
With nearly 400 visitors, ADW’s booth was frequented often, especially from the educators who were interested in the patients that ADW’s focus is on, the uninsured, underinsured and anybody paying out of pocket for their supplies.
If you will be attending the meeting, you can look for American Diabetes Wholesale at booth #1940 and get more information on the low cost diabetic supplies that ADW offers.

Free clinics throughout the country are dedicated to providing care to those who are in need. The majority of clinics are non-profit organizations funded by donations, and some grant money to accomplish their goals: blood tests, blood glucose screenings, providing prescription medications, and in some cases, providing diabetes testing supplies.
Aware of clinics’ needs for these diabetic supplies, American Diabetes Wholesale is dedicated to providing these supplies, as well as remaining the best resource for the patients in need of diabetic supplies. American Diabetes Wholesale has made multiple donations to organizations like these, and will continue to do so in the future.
By working directly with certified diabetes educators, clinics, and other diabetes programs, American Diabetes Wholesale is staying committed to keeping diabetes management affordable!

Earlier today, American Diabetes Wholesale attended a Diabetes Awareness education seminar at the Pompano Primary Health Clinic, which services the uninsured. They invited us to attend their seminar on Diabetes Awareness, and share our information with the patients with diabetes that they see.
We provided them with pill reminders, cheese and crackers, and a vegetable tray. The speaker at the clinic was very well-spoken and informative. This was a perfect example of why Diabetes Education is so important, and why we are giving back to the dedicated educators with our CDE of the Year Award contest.
Some of the important topics that were discussed were maintaining healthy eating habits, and keeping cholesterol at a healthy level. She also explained the best ways to treat a low blood sugar level. Knowing the symptoms of diabetes was the main part of the seminar, being that it was aimed more towards patients with pre-diabetes.
It is a great feeling to know that American Diabetes Wholesale is here to help out the patients with diabetes who have no insurance and no means of getting the supplies that they need. The patients that we saw today are the reasons for why we are dedicated to keeping diabetes management affordable.

When a person is newly diagnosed with diabetes, a whole new world of questions and concerns opens up! Fortunately, our modern medical system offers the invaluable contributions of the certified diabetes educator, or CDE. From learning how to use diabetic test strips to monitor their blood glucose levels, what foods can cause dangerous imbalances in their blood sugar, and how to maintain a proper exercise regimen, the certified diabetes educator is the person with the answers.
But what exactly is a CDE, and how does someone become one?
A certified diabetes educator is a health care professional that has earned special certification focused on teaching people with diabetes how to manage their condition. In most cases, the CDE is a nurse or dietician who underwent extra training to specialize in patients with the diabetic condition. After this formal training, their certification is awarded by the National Certification Board for Diabetes Educators. Unlike an endocrinologist, who is a hormone specialist that deals with diseases in addition to diabetes, the CDE is specially dedicated to the needs of diabetics, and helping them to lead a healthy lifestyle.
These professionals are crucial to those who need to learn about the tools and skills necessary to control their blood glucose levels, and avoid serious complications such as diabetic neuropathy and hyperglycemia. For more information about CDE’s, or to locate one locally, please visit the American Association of Diabetes Educators website.
American Diabetes Wholesale recognizes the importance and contributions that certified diabetes educators. We are offering a contest for readers to nominate their favorite CDE. The winner will get a wonderful 2 night / 3 day vacation at the Boca Raton Resort and Club in Boca Raton, FL. Make your nomination here, but hurry, the contest ends November 30, 2007!

I recently attended the American Association of Diabetes Educators show in St. Louis, MO. The importance of educators in the world of diabetes is crucial. From attending the show, I saw first hand how dedicated these educators are to their profession. Some traveled across the country in order to attend this trade show, just so they could gain more information resources to help out their patients.
Being that these educators work so hard to help their patients manage their diabetes, we decided that here at American Diabetes Wholesale we will reward them for their hard work and dedication. We have established a “Diabetes Educator of the Year” award with the grand prize of a 3 day/ 2 night stay at the ultra-luxorious Boca Raton Resort and Club.
For more details on this contest, please click the link to find out how you can nominate your favorite educator.
Having good knowledge and understanding of the disease of diabetes is one of the first steps in order to manage it. We are constantly working hard in order to keep the management of diabetes affordable. There is a dire need to spread the word of diabetes self-management, but the financial situations of a lot of people with diabetes do not allow them to test as often as they need to.
Somebody needs to be there to stand up for the diabetic patients who are in need of discounted prices of their supplies. Many Diabetes Educators are working with American Diabetes Wholesale to help their patients maintain a healthy and active lifestyle. By working as a team we can help reach every diabetic who has at one time or another said, “I can’t test today, I only have one left, and no more money to buy more strips.”
I can’t wait to attend the next show to see all of the dedicated educators again. I love how much they care about their professions and their patients; not only just their patients but all diabetics, and diabetes in general. I promise to continue to strive to help everyone who is affected by diabetes and make sure our company keeps diabetes management affordable.
