The Healthy Living Expo in The Villages, Fl was a successful event. With over 1,000 attendees there was information for them on their diabetes, blood pressure, cholestorel, comfortable shoes, and other health support materials. American Diabetes Wholesale’s sugar free low-carb candies were a huge success with the residents. These candies are not just great for people with diabetes, but everybody in general. They are the D-Lectable candies.
The organizers of this event, Jim and Nancy Smith, are dedicated to their diabetes support group and worked extremely hard to organize and set this whole event up. All proceeds were donated to the Florida Children’s with Diabetes Camp.
We look forward to returning to the 2009 event.

Earlier today, American Diabetes Wholesale attended a Diabetes Awareness education seminar at the Pompano Primary Health Clinic, which services the uninsured. They invited us to attend their seminar on Diabetes Awareness, and share our information with the patients with diabetes that they see.
We provided them with pill reminders, cheese and crackers, and a vegetable tray. The speaker at the clinic was very well-spoken and informative. This was a perfect example of why Diabetes Education is so important, and why we are giving back to the dedicated educators with our CDE of the Year Award contest.
Some of the important topics that were discussed were maintaining healthy eating habits, and keeping cholesterol at a healthy level. She also explained the best ways to treat a low blood sugar level. Knowing the symptoms of diabetes was the main part of the seminar, being that it was aimed more towards patients with pre-diabetes.
It is a great feeling to know that American Diabetes Wholesale is here to help out the patients with diabetes who have no insurance and no means of getting the supplies that they need. The patients that we saw today are the reasons for why we are dedicated to keeping diabetes management affordable.

This past Saturday I attended a MediVan & Health Community Services Inc. flea market with free health screenings. They provided free blood pressure and blood glucose checks to anybody who showed up. There was also a mini flea market to try to raise funds to provide no cost health care to uninsured Broward County residents. American Diabetes Wholesale was the only diabetic supply company there with a display.
Out of the all the diabetics that I met there, one particular family stood out the most. A young lady, along with her parents, approached our display, with a look of great interest on her face. I introduced myself and American Diabetes Wholesale, and discovered that the father was a diabetic.
They had quite a dilemma too. In addition to being uninsured, the man could not meet his doctor’s testing requirements. Apparently, his doctor’s instructions were to test 4-5 times a day, but, due to their financial situation, he could only afford to test once in the morning and once before bedtime. As a diabetic myself, I realized it was vital for him to test as per his doctor’s orders, and the cost of supplies should not hinder his health. He was greatly relieved to find out about our company and the great discounts we offer on diabetic products.
This story is another example of how American Diabetes Wholesale’s dedication to keep diabetes self-management affordable helps everyday people maintain a healthy lifestyle.

How many options are out there? That is the question I asked myself yesterday after speaking with a mother who was calling in for her son who is in the process of changing jobs and will be without insurance for three months. Her son was on an insulin pump and would need the insulin for it. Being a type 1 diabetic myself, around the same age, I would have done the same thing to try to solve the problem as he did. He called his mom and asked her to pay for it. Unfortunately, that was not as easy of an option as it sounds.
There was the possibility of COBRA, which could help in the times between switching jobs. The cost of COBRA also was not within the range. Where and what options is there to go from there?
This situation really hits home for me because I do have Type 1 Diabetes and insurance coverage will be a lifelong adventure for me also. Working for a company like American Diabetes Wholesale makes you feel good about yourself, knowing that I am helping out fellow people with diabetes by being able to offer the supplies they need at such lower costs than any other retail store or Mail Order Company.
It seems like everyday I hear a story about how expensive diabetes is or how it has caused such a financial crisis to be able to self-manage the disease the way it needs to be done. It is terrible that some people are forced to just not test because they can’t afford to pay cash for their supplies.
It is fantastic that there is a company like American Diabetes Wholesale that doesn’t just care about their bottom line, but also about the patient.
