ADW's Diabetic Coverage Auto Order Program

American Diabetes Wholesale Supports Mr. Diabetes

December 24th, 2008 by Chris - Executive

On December 14th the American Diabetes Wholesale team traveled to Sarasota to help support Mr Diabetes and the Defeat Diabetes Foundation. The local community of Sarasota had a festival and ceremony to honor Andy Mandell for his 8 years of dedication to help people with diabetes.

The Festival was a unique event under the PAL Sailor Circus Big Top in downtown Sarasota for his HOME STRETCH of The Walk - a 10,000+ journey of the U.S. perimeter by “Mr. Diabetes” - a 62 year old Type 2 Diabetic. The PAL Sailor Circus was filed with many organizations and hundreds of local residents joined us to get more information on diabetes and to show their support for the Defeat diabetes Foundation.

Here was the schedule of demonstrations and events:
10:10 Bethseba’s Goddesses
11:00 Opening Ceremony - Grand Entrance of Mr. Diabetes®
11:30 Zumba Fitness Dance by Maurina Meissner & Linda Roman
12:00 Spotlight Kids
12:30 Kick Boxing Demonstration by HealthPlex
12:50 Boxing / Jump Rope Clinic by Tony Spain
1:15 Yogini to Go! by Malika Shay
1:50 Sarasota Family YMCA Dance Team
2:10 Boxing / Jump Rope Clinic by Tony Spain

It was an honor to be in Sarasota to meet Andy and I am proud of the hard work the Defeat Diabetes team is doing in this fight against diabetes. Our team admires Mr. Diabetes(R) and his tireless effort and programs that have helped increase awareness about pre-diabetes, prevention and diabetes self management.

ADW Power Walkers Attend Step Out! Walk

October 21st, 2008 by Chris - Customer Relations

On Saturday October 18, 2008, American Diabetes Wholesale participated in the American Diabetes Assocation’s Fort Lauderdale Step Out! Fight Against Diabetes Walk.  The event was held at the Bank Atlantic Center in Sunrise, FL.  There was a large turnout of walkers and volunteers.  With music, food, volunteers, and excited walkers, the walk was a success!  Every dollar that is raised at an event like this makes a difference.

ADW handed out free meters to those who had diabetes or knew somebody with diabetes.  Also, there were 5 lucky recipients that won either a free Splenda Cookbook by Marlene Koch or an Eat Smart Nutrition Scale.

The ADW Power Walkers team had about 20 team members walking the route around the Bank Atlantic Center.  We were also able to raise nearly $2,000 for the ADA and the fight against diabetes.  Below are several pictures from the event.

Feria de Salud Por Tu Familia

October 6th, 2008 by Chris - Executive

Last Saturday the American Diabetes Wholesale team participated in the 2nd Annual Feria de Salud Por Tu Familia at Tropical Park. This was a great event during Hispanic Heritage Month hosted by the South Florida American Diabetes Association. Several thousand local residents came out to Feria de Salud to help fight against diabetes in Miami’s neighborhoods that are most affected by diabetes.

Here are a few key stats on diabetes within the Hispanic community from the ADA:

* The prevalence of diabetes is 1.7 times higher in Hispanics than Non-Hispanic Whites
* 61% of the population is Hispanic in Miami-Dade County (19% in Florida and 7% in the United States)
* 8.6% Hispanics have been diagnosed with diabetes in Miami-Dade County
* 2.5 million or 9.5% of all Hispanic Americans aged twenty years or older have diabetes
* An estimated 16% of Cubans in the United States between the ages of 45 and 74 have diabetes
* Approximately 24% of Mexican Americans and 26% of Puerto Ricans in the United States between the ages of 45 and 74 have diabetes
* Estimated that by 2020, 44% of Hispanics over the age of 65 will have diabetes

ADW enjoy this great diabetes event and all the activities that were available for the families for everyone. The atmosphere included live music, dancing, nutritional information, cooking demonstrations, face painting for the kids, and much more….

Some photos of the event including our booth and banner on the performance stage.

We Can All Fight Diabetes with Knowledge and Teamwork

May 30th, 2008 by Chris - Executive

Share Your Diabetes Story

Part of our mission here at ADW is to help everyone who is affected by diabetes…you do not have to be diagnosed with diabetes to be affected by this disease - someone close to you might have it, whether it be a friend, family member, team mate, co-worker, etc.

Not only are we a great resource for low cost diabetic supplies, we are working hard to make sure we provide other resources outside of diabetic supplies. Some of these resources include our weekly informational newsletters, our diabetic forum, and our well trained staff.

This week we launched our “Share your Story” campaign. We’ve had many great responses and we are hoping to publish some on our website soon. Our goal is to give others who may be living with diabetes the comfort in knowing that they are not alone, and we are all in this together. Many of the stories came in with tips and suggestions. . .where can you get better advice than the people who are walking in your shoes?

Here is one of my favorite stories…it is feedback like this that makes me proud of our ADW team and the hard work our company is providing to the community!

“When I was first found out I was a diabetic thank god I found you. I
learned a lot of diabetes and was able to get my diabetic supplies at great prices. I really just want to thank the american diabetes wholesale team.” Brandon G, PA

American Diabetes Wholesale Attends IHS Conference

February 13th, 2008 by Chris - Customer Relations

Through December 18-20, 2007, American Diabetes Wholesale attended the “Making Data Count: Measuring Diabetes and Obesity in the Indian Health System.  This conference was held because the IHS is looking to better analyze the data that they are getting from testing, so they can find out if their program are making progress.

There were about 330 attendees, which included dieticians, RN, doctors, fitness instructors and CDE’s.  ADW is exciting to work with the IHS in order to help them get the data they need to keep all of their tribe members healthy.
