Importance of Daily Blood Glucose Log

September 24th, 2008 by Chris - Customer Relations

One of the most important parts of managing your diabetes is by keeping a daily log of your blood sugars. Testing your blood sugar will let you know what your sugar level is at that time, but without keeping a log, you will not know any trends that may be occurring. Certain foods could spike your blood sugar, or exercise could also affect it, so by knowing your glucose levels throughout the day you and your healthcare professionals can better manage your diabetes.

One way of keeping track of your blood sugars, is by using a daily log book. These log books can keep track of what your blood sugar level is, and what type of medication you are taking or carbs you may be eating during that meal.

ADW works closely with diabetes educators, nurses, and other health care professionals and also realizes the importance of these log books. Because of this, ADW is offering free log books for your order of $50.00 or more.

Check out our ADW Daily Log Book to receive your promo code for FREE Self Test Log Books!

What A Great Week for My Sports Teams

September 24th, 2008 by Chris S

What a great week of sports for me!  First, Va Tech beat UNC 20-17 (2nd straight week by beating a team 20-17)  Then the Eagles beat the Steelers yesterday also.  That was a great game and also it was screwing with my blood sugars for sure.  It went down pretty low, around 50-60 and then I just ate some more food and everything was back to normal.  The Phillies also took a bigger lead on the Mets, so we should be a lock for the N.L. East penant.

Also, on Saturday was the Brad Paisley concert.  That was a long day, and it was very, very hot.  When it starts to get too hott, and I start to sweat  a lot, my infusion set usually falls off because it loses it’s stickiness.  And guess what happened on Saturday, it fell off!  I had to go about 3-4 hours without my infusion set, so when I got home after the concert, my blood sugar was 358.  It was fixed right away as soon as I was home however.  But I will definitely not forget my insulin pen when I go to another concert ever again.

Diabetic Supplies While Fishing

September 24th, 2008 by Chris S

I played tennis yesterday for almost 2 hours.  When you play it correctly, it is way too tiring.  I was hurting all last night and then all day today.  I was playing with my roommate, who is pretty good also, so he whooped me the first set, but then the second one we split, then we stopped playing because we wanted to go fishing also.  When i went to go fishing, I made sure that I took my bag that has my sugar tabs, a Gatorade, meter, and of course sunflower seeds.  When we got to the canal, my roommate looks at me and says, “give me a worm.”  After I told him that I didn’t have any he says, “well what do you have in the bag, I thought you had all the fishing stuff in there!”

So after explaining to him that I don’t carry fishing stuff in that bag, but my potential life saving supplies, we decided to just go back to the house and watch TV.  I watched the movie, “The Eye” last night and it was extremely scary.  I was so freaked out after watching it, I thought I was seeing grey shadows all night long.

This weekend I am going to the Brad Paisley concert featuring Jewel at the Cruzan Amphitheatre in West Palm Beach, FL.  These days scare me because the concert starts at like 7 I guess, but the tailgaiting starts at about noon-ish.  I’ll also be missing football all day long, but what are you going to do?  I will set a goal of testing 5 times while at the event, I need to start meeting these goals.

Considering CGMS and Weight Loss Roadblock

September 24th, 2008 by Chris S

I am debating whether or not to go on the Medtronic CGMS or not.  I really would love to do it, but at this particular time, hopefully only another week or so, I am without insurance, so I can’t really afford it.  My A1C is decreasing, but I will not be satisfied until I consistently have it under 6.5.

I am also concerned that I can’t seem to get to my next weight loss goal.  I have lost 10 pounds which I knew would be very easy to lose, but now it is coming off a lot slower.  I’m still exercising and eating health-ier.  Healthier is the key word there.  I am still not in a full blown diet, but I have cut down on my carb intake which should help a little.  I have also cut out the Dunkin Donuts sausage, egg, and cheese on an english muffin that I was having pretty much 4-5 times a week.  (Saving money on that too!)

My roommate is a gym freak and workout-aholic, so it is good to have him there to push me and to get me into the gym even on the days I don’t feel like going.  For those of you who are pump users, do you take your pump off when you exercise or do you keep it on?

When I am running or on the bike, I take it off because it is always flopping around and extremely annoying.  However, once I am done with that, I will put it back on when I am lifting.  I also take it off when I play tennis too.  It is so hard to figure out, sometimes my sugar goes up when I am exercising and sometimes it goes down.  It has to be something to do with what I am eating before I start working out, I don’t know.

By the way, I just tested…. 255….. the morning highs, can’t seem to cure them!

Diet and Exercise Still on Pace

September 17th, 2008 by Chris S

The diet and exercising is going along pretty well.  The diet is still a little slow, but I am continuing to work out.  I have been doing cardio only, but starting today, I am going to start lifting also.  I will also be starting a low carb diet today, no more pasta, thats for sure.  I am also going to try and cut down the amount of bread I am eating, but those $5 footlongs are way to good to pass up.

The Eagles game didn’t turn out the way I wanted it to, and it was very stressful on me also.  However, I did test my sugar 3 times during the game, well once before, once at halftime and once after the game was over.  I usually never do that, but it was a lot easier to do since it was on national tv, and I was able to watch the game at home.

Happy hump day everybody!
