Less than a week until my vacation starts. Monday night after work, it officially starts. I have to be at the airport at around 4:30 for a 6:00 a.m. flight. It amazes me how crowded airports are at that time. I got so used to flying over the past couple of years because I have went back and forth to Pennsylvania for 4 years now, however, I haven’t been back home since Christmas of last year. It’s been a long time since I had to fly and go through the Diabetes security check at the airport.
I don’t usually check my sugars on the plane because it is only a little over an hour flight and then I get off to hop on board another plane, so that is usually when I check it. I have some fun things planned for when I do go home next week. As soon as I get home, I can’t wait to go eat at the good ole’ hometown family owned places that I miss. I also get to surprise my nieces by picking them up from school, which I haven’t seen them since I met them in Disney World in March.
Well, it is going to be one crazy hectic work week so I can not only try to catch up, but also get ahead.

What a weird weekend this was. The worst part was the tie game between the Eagles and the Bengals. This game drove me crazy, and was also one of the ugliest I have ever seen. I remembered the last tie that took place because my dad is a huge Pittsburg Steelers fan and we were watching the game. Also, on Saturday, I some how ended up at the local sports bar to watch the UFC fight. This is where my blood sugars got all crazy. My sugar went up really high when I was eating chips and salsa, but then they just dropped like crazy and went down to about 55.
I had a lot of chips in front of me, but they disappeared pretty quickly once I saw the number 55 on the meter. I also had a really low experience yesterday that just came out of nowhere. I was in the middle of cleaning up my house when it happened, so I had no problem stopping what I was doing, test and then take the time to eat some Skittles to get my sugars back where they needed to be. The only part I hated about the Skittles is that I am trying to lose weight, so when I eat them or drink some OJ, it has like 150 calories, 15 minutes in the gym just to recover from a low.
Today’s weigh in is 238. I didn’t reach my goal, but this week’s dieting is going to be a lot more intense. I didn’t hit the gym as much as I wanted to last week. I played tennis 3 nights, but I wanted to go to the gym right after playing tennis, but I never made it.
One final thought, my roommate was making fun of me because of the Eagles tying and being in last place, and then I stopped for a second, and said…. hey, we’re still the World Series Champs though. So I wanted to take a little time today to recognize and not forget the the Chase Utley led Philadelphia Phillies, World Series Champs, Philadelphia Phillies that is.

Finally, back from vacation, well Monday night I was. What a disaster. I was supposed to fly back home on Sunday, but the weather was bad so there was multiple delays in different airports. Long story short, I went to the airport on Sunday, sat there for about 2-3 hours, realized that I wasn’t getting back to Florida Sunday night, so I had my dad pick me back up, spent another night at my parent’s house and then flew back home to Florida on Monday. Then it was back to work yesterday and today. I am still trying to get back into the flow of things. I can’t really start my diet yet either because I am still feeling like I am on the go right now. I’m trying to unpack, clean up, and get it all together.
I have another dilemna now. I have an appointment with my educator on 12/23, but now I don’t think that I can fly home until 12/23, so thats the only time that I will be able to see her, so I don’t know exactly what I am going to be able to do. While I was home, my sugar ran a little high. I was happy with how often I tested myself, but I wasn’t always happy with the results. It was mainly because I was eating a lot and then I was taking so much insulin that my infusion set was starting to leak because it was too much insulin going into one part of my body. I couldn’t help it though, all that great food just tasted amazing.
Well, time to get back on the diet again.
