Just scheduled my A1C for next week. I know it is going to be a little higher then last time, but I know exactly why and it is my own fault, so it can be corrected and I am taking steps today to correct it. I have no time at all to make it to the gym, however, I am freeing up some time at night because exercise is extremely important. I went golfing this weekend, which was great exercise, but I am now extremely sore today.
I have planned out my meals for the entire week in order to keep my calories at a certain level. That is the easy part, now the hard part is actually following through on it. Eating at work is simple, but more difficult once I get home, I know it’s usually the other way around, but that’s how it is for me. Salads for lunch, and over eat for dinner, same story.
My blood sugar levels while I was golfing were pretty steady. It is a great sport to be able to blame a bad shot on a low blood sugar. Everytime that I sliced a ball, it was only because my blood sugar was low, obviously!
Everyone have a great day!

I have been doing a horrible job of actually posting on my blog, I am going to start doing it a lot more. I just find that a lot of times, I don’t have many diabetes related things to post about everyday. Sunday night I actually had another high that was pretty bad. It took me a long time to bring it back down. My meter just read, “HI”. I took 25 units of insulin and tried to just go back to sleep and finally after waking up several times to go to the bathroom, I got it down to a manageable level.
Other than that not much else has been going on. Just working a lot, lot, lot. I went to a clinic today to help out with Diabetes Alert Day. There was free glucose screenings, blood pressure screenings, and neuropathy checks. I was helping hand out “Goodie-bags” to those that decided to sit through the lectures and the screenings. It is good to be there to help out with these free screenings to alert people that they may be at risk for diabetes.
This weekend is the local JDRF walk, I’ve been collecting some money, so I am looking forward to being one of the top individual fundraisers. Can’t wait.

I went to the driving range this weekend, and it was the first time that my pump gave me a problem when I went. It was pretty hot out, so I was sweating, so one time I ripped into one with my driver and my pump fell out of my pocket and pulled my infusion set right out. But I only had a quarter of bucket of balls left, so I kept on hitting. As soon as I got back to my car, I tested and my sugar was about 150, so I knew I was good until I got home. Once I got home, I took a shower, replaced the infusion set, tested again and was 185, not too bad. I ate lunch and tested 2 hours later, and I was back down to about 120-ish. I played a round of golf one time where I disconnected everytime I walked up to the tee and to the ball, and it was just really annoying, so I just trained myself to play with the pump on.
My other blood sugar scare was later that night however. I went to the Florida Panthers game, and when I got there I felt really thirsty so tested my sugar and I was about 375, how the hell did this happen I haven’t ate anything for like 4 hours. I was starving and had to eat something, so I didn’t know what to do. So I took 25 units of insulin (the max bolus on my pump) and then as soon as that one was done, I took anothe 25. I know it’s not the best solution, but I didn’t have anymore pens, so I had to do something! Tested after the first period, down to 250, tested after the second period, down to 110, tested after the game before we got on the Turnpike, dropping to about 75, so I ate some Skittles for the 20 minute ride home.
Later that night we went out to a local hangout, Hurricane’s in Delray, and my sugars were fine, but I started to feel a little low again, so luckily my amazing girlfriend had some Skittles handy in her purse. Her purse fits my little meter and skittles perfectly!
Saturday was a pretty eventful blood sugar day!

Hopefully this weekend is going to be a relaxed filled one. I do not have any plans directly, however something always pops up and it gets hectic. I plan on going to the driving range sometime this weekend, hopefully Saturday and then actually going golfing sometime on Sunday, but who knows, probably won’t get around to either one of them. Sunday night is a big night because it is the Eagles – Giants game which is definitely going to mess with my blood sugar levels.
Sunday is also going to be a day that I am going out for pizza for dinner for my girlfriend’s grandfather’s birthday, so that right there also always screws with my blood sugar. So that should be a fun night filled with testing my levels constantly. Another thing this weekend is that I think my girlfriend is going to start on her photo album of our cruise, she always makes some awesome scrapbooking things…. hmmm maybe a business idea. Send us your pics and she will scrapbook them for you! Any buyers? Well, I should probably ask her first huh?
Well you all have a great, safe weekend, and come back Monday to see how my sugars were throughout the game…. if you care…….later!

I am very surprised with how great my sugar levels were on the cruise. I actually tested about 4-5 times a day which also shocked me. We didn’t spend a lot of time in our room, but whenever we came back to the room I was testing my sugar just to make sure it was at a proper level. My girlfriend was a little sea sick on the first day, so we didn’t really do too much, but once we got to the Bahamas, the fun was on. We spent majority of the day at Atlantis, which is definitely a magically place. I had a perfect scheme set up there too.
I took my pump off and left it in a locker while we went on different water rides. I would test my sugar, then go off and do one section of the park. We would then go back to the locker, check again and then do another section. The best part was that there is a lazy river that goes around the whole Aquaventure park so when we wanted to go back to the lockers, we hopped in a raft and floated to the the exit where our lockers were. Also, since it was my first time in the Bahamas, I was enjoying all the different tropical drinks that were just floating around at the bars, and I was able to maintain blood sugar levels under 200 the whole entire day, more like under 160!
Even during the buffets I was eating, my blood sugars didn’t spike. The only day was Sunday morning, they were a little high and then after breakfast they stayed high for a while. It took me a few hours to bring down the blood sugar levels. But all in all the cruise was amazing. I celebrated my birthday on Saturday, and then a 3 year anniversary on Monday, so it was an all in one cruise.
Now, it is time to celebrate the whole month of November and National Diabetes Awareness Month. Whoever becomes the next president tonight, I challenge you to do something in your first 100 days that will benefit the over 23 million diabetics in this country…. go ahead I DARE you! Let’s make our voice heard.

One of the most important parts of managing your diabetes is by keeping a daily log of your blood sugars. Testing your blood sugar will let you know what your sugar level is at that time, but without keeping a log, you will not know any trends that may be occurring. Certain foods could spike your blood sugar, or exercise could also affect it, so by knowing your glucose levels throughout the day you and your healthcare professionals can better manage your diabetes.
One way of keeping track of your blood sugars, is by using a daily log book. These log books can keep track of what your blood sugar level is, and what type of medication you are taking or carbs you may be eating during that meal.
ADW works closely with diabetes educators, nurses, and other health care professionals and also realizes the importance of these log books. Because of this, ADW is offering free log books for your order of $50.00 or more.
