Another High, Will Post More

March 26th, 2009 by Chris S

I have been doing a horrible job of actually posting on my blog, I am going to start doing it a lot more.  I just find that a lot of times, I don’t have many diabetes related things to post about everyday.  Sunday night I actually had another high that was pretty bad.  It took me a long time to bring it back down.  My meter just read, “HI”.  I took 25 units of insulin and tried to just go back to sleep and finally after waking up several times to go to the bathroom, I got it down to a manageable level.

Other than that not much else has been going on.  Just working a lot, lot, lot.  I went to a clinic today to help out with Diabetes Alert Day.  There was free glucose screenings, blood pressure screenings, and neuropathy checks.  I was helping hand out “Goodie-bags” to those that decided to sit through the lectures and the screenings.  It is good to be there to help out with these free screenings to alert people that they may be at risk for diabetes.

This weekend is the local JDRF walk, I’ve been collecting some money, so I am looking forward to being one of the top individual fundraisers.  Can’t wait.

Lost Insertion Device While Moving

August 25th, 2008 by Chris S

My moving caused me to lose my infusion set injector.  So, luckily I could get another one from my job today, because I went through the night without my pump attached to me, but I had a Humalog pen that I used as a backup.  My sugar wasn’t that high when I woke up though, so it wasn’t that bad.  I don’t know what I did with the injector, I think I broke it in the midst of packing everything up.  I am almost completely done with the move in, but it seems everytime I move stuff out and I come back to get another load, I think somebody is coming into my apartment and adding more stuff because it is never ending.

Anyway, I spoke with my educator yesterday, and even after my insurance runs out, she is going to still do consultations with me and allow me to e-mail her my sugars and any pump adjustments that I need to make.  I am lucky to have a CDE that cares that much!

Football season is almost here!!!!  The birds play tomorrow night against the Patriots, and it’s good because it is the third pre-season game when the starters usually play a lot more throughout the game.  I am not happy with how the starters are playing right now, but I also am not upset, they are just playing average, but it’s time to step it up now!

Bowling and Blogging Monday 2

June 9th, 2008 by Chris S

Another Monday, another day of blogging and bowling. My life has been pretty boring as of late so there hasn’t been many things to blog about, that is why I didn’t blog last Friday. I had nothing exciting to talk about and I didn’t want to bore anybody and waste their time. I lost a vial of insulin and it really makes me mad. Last Thursday I took it to work and I know I put it in my shorts when I left to go home. I looked for it this weekend, couldn’t find it, so I thought, “Hmmm….I probably left it at work.” Nope, its not here either, so now I have no clue what so ever where it is, and it still had two refills left.

Well, what are you going to do, crying about it won’t help anything. Bowling is going to be intense tonight because all the other teams suck, and since our averages are so high, we could be the worst team because of the handicaps. I don’t like losing!

Well, sorry this is so short, but it is Monday, so there is work to be done!

This very dangerous practice was the subject of a recent study on Type 1 diabetic women with eating disorders who were skipping insulin doses, mostly due to the effects of weight gain. Check out the article “Insulin & Weight Loss” for more details.

Rubin, MD, The First Year: Type 2 Diabetes: An Essential Guide for the Newly Diagnosed – 2nd Edition by Gretchen Becker, and a great informative audio book for those on the go – My Pocket Doctor – Diabetic Reference Guide And Journal – 60 Minute Audio Book!

Don’t forget the tasty recipe at the end of the newsletter – a sweet and fruity treat – Cran-Apple Oatmeal.
