Another High, Will Post More

March 26th, 2009 by Chris S

I have been doing a horrible job of actually posting on my blog, I am going to start doing it a lot more.  I just find that a lot of times, I don’t have many diabetes related things to post about everyday.  Sunday night I actually had another high that was pretty bad.  It took me a long time to bring it back down.  My meter just read, “HI”.  I took 25 units of insulin and tried to just go back to sleep and finally after waking up several times to go to the bathroom, I got it down to a manageable level.

Other than that not much else has been going on.  Just working a lot, lot, lot.  I went to a clinic today to help out with Diabetes Alert Day.  There was free glucose screenings, blood pressure screenings, and neuropathy checks.  I was helping hand out “Goodie-bags” to those that decided to sit through the lectures and the screenings.  It is good to be there to help out with these free screenings to alert people that they may be at risk for diabetes.

This weekend is the local JDRF walk, I’ve been collecting some money, so I am looking forward to being one of the top individual fundraisers.  Can’t wait.

Thousands Attend JDRF Walk in Boca Raton, FL

April 3rd, 2008 by adw

This past Saturday, March 29, 2008, the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation held their annual walk in Boca Raton, FL in Mizner Park. There were approximately 3,000 people who showed up. The amount of awareness and money raised for such a great organization is amazing and exciting. American Diabetes Wholesale is proud to support the JDRF in ways such as this. It is now time for JDRF to start planning and organizing the next walk.

The weather forecast was rainy and thunderstorms, but it could not have turned out to be any more perfect of a day. The sun was out with a few clouds, and a nice little breeze every now and again. The two mile walk turned out to be successful. Approximately 8-10 ADW team members walked with family and friends.

The performances by local high school cheerleaders, bands, and singers were all outstanding. It created a great environment for a great cause.

Below are a few pictures included from the walk of members of the ADW team.

Hoping my A1C Test Turns Out as Good as JDRF Walk

April 3rd, 2008 by Chris S

The JDRF walk this past Saturday was great. There were so many people there, probably close to about 3,000. With the minimum donation being about $100, that had to be a great outcome. Now it’s time to start collecting for the ADA walks later this year. I’ll be holding some local fundraisers for different events in the area, so if you live in the south Florida region, keep up with the posts because there may be things you want to help out with.

I’ve been controlling my eating habits the past couple of days, and my sugars have been more stable. I am trying hard to fight the hunger problems. Yogurt has been the most frequented food, and yogurt smoothies. I played tennis the other day for about 10 minutes because I caught up with my girlfriend and her mom when they were just finishing and tired out.

A1C test is next week, hopefully it turns out well as well as the JDRF walk did!

ADW and Broward Health Specialty Care Center

March 30th, 2008 by adw

On March 25, 2008 on American Diabetes Alert day, American Diabetes Wholesale attended the health seminar at the Specialty Care Center in Fort Lauderdale, FL. There were about 100 patients who had showed up for a free blood glucose and also blood pressure readings. There was excellent lectures on diet, excercise, feet, eyes, stress, anything and everything that someone with diabetes would need to know about and how to manage.

It was a great turn out and another reason why ADW is here, and that is to help those without the resources for their everyday supplies. Majority could not afford anything at all let alone paying the high cost for their supplies. We have committed ourselves to keeping diabetes management affordable, and will continue to be there for those patients as a resource for them.

Upcoming event for American Diabetes Wholesale will be this Saturday, March 29, 2008 at Mizner Park in Boca Raton, FL for the JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes.

Still Morning Highs and High Stress

March 30th, 2008 by Chris S

I just have one question, how do you all find time to blog everyday? I know I’m not the only one who is extremely busy and doesn’t even have time to eat some days, but how do you manage to do it. I try to because it does calm the nerves and relieves the stress in the middle of the day. I’ve been a little worried about my blood sugar levels throughout the night because I just keep waking up with like 300 levels. I have tried so many damn things. Eating Taco Bell last night I know didn’t help.

Also, yesterday I was so busy at work that I totally forgot to eat lunch. I ate at 8:30, testing throughout the day. At about noon my level was 123, and then I didn’t test again until about 5, and without eating all day, my sugar went up to 230. I don’t know why my sugar goes up when I don’t eat, I always expect it to go the opposite way.

Our local JDRF walk is coming up this Saturday. It’s at the beautiful Mizner Park in Boca Raton, FL. If you’re in the area, please come out and join us, it should be fun! Please, you can support the fight for the cure!

Bowling and Blogging Friday 3

March 30th, 2008 by Chris S

Getting back to my bowling and blogging Friday’s, I believe this is number 3. I have missed 2 out of the last 4 Friday’s because I was out of town, but yet I still have to pay for my bowling. So last night, I ate chinese food for lunch and dinner and tested my sugar at midnight and it was 300, what a surprise. I corrected and woke up in the morning and my level was at 212, a little better then the last few days. I guess I just have to start waking up in the middle of the night again and test my sugar to see where the highs are starting or coming from.

Tomorrow is the local JDRF walk and after that, a day of nothing but school work. It has been beautiful all week long and then the weekend comes and it is rainy all weekend, isn’t that great? I don’t mind this weekend, because like I said I have a lot of schoolwork that I have to do.

Michigan State plays tonight, hopefully Monday’s blog title will read “Michigan State Spartans to the Final Four!”
