Game Day Snack Tips and Recipes for DiabeticsThis week’s newsletter features a great article by cookbook author and diabetes nutrition expert, Marlene Koch, titled “Game Day Snacks – Fumble or Score?” It’s the perfect article as the sports seasons are getting underway, and many friends gather around the big screens to cheer their favorite teams on! Although these are great ways to spend time with friends and family, they often present a challenge to those who need to watch the types of foods they eat, especially people with diabetes. Marlene gives some great tips on how to manage healthy snacking, and even bringing your own gameday snacks that are sure to please the crowd (and keep you worry-free!)

Marlene also gives us two super recipes for these events! Mix up the spiciness of Buffalo Chicken Strips with the cool creamy taste of Bleu Cheese Dip, or maybe serve up a crunchy vegetable tray with Classic Spinach Dip!

American Diabetes Wholesale Launches Destination Diabetes

American Diabetes Wholesale and Author Marlene Koch, RD Launch Destination Diabetes(TM)

The American Diabetes Association estimates that 20.8 million children and adults in the United States have diabetes and of that number, 6.2 million are unaware that they have the disease. To assist in the education of people living with diabetes, American Diabetes Wholesale, a discount provider of diabetic supplies to individuals without insurance, underinsured or paying out of pocket, will be launching Destination Diabetes™, a free information portal that provides credible and useful information on a variety of health and wellness topics ranging from articles on diabetes management to diabetes friendly recipes and food lists. To assist in the site launch on Tuesday, June 24, 2008, Marlene Koch, RD, best-selling author, professional cooking instructor and nutrition educator, will be available to answer questions via live chat from 2:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. (EDT). The first 50 people who sign on will receive a free copy of her new cookbook, Marlene Koch’s Sensational Splenda Recipes: 375 Recipes Low in Sugar, Fat and Calories, and Marlene will also be giving away two 30-minute consultation sessions where she will share her secrets to bridging the gap between good food and good health.

This very dangerous practice was the subject of a recent study on Type 1 diabetic women with eating disorders who were skipping insulin doses, mostly due to the effects of weight gain. American Diabetes Wholesale Newsletter Review: April 10, 2008

Bitter melon is a tropical fruit used in many foreign countries for its health benefits, as well as culinary flavorings. The study indicates that bitter melon in its various forms (extract, tea, etc.) may have a positive effect on AMPK, an enzyme that regulates metabolism and aids in the body’s glucose absorption. Hello everyone! Another week has gone by, and that means that American Diabetes Wholesale has a new edition of our informative newsletter!

This issue’s main story covers something that many people use in their diets, whether they have diabetes or not – sugar substitutes. Naturally, however, this topic is a major concern to diabetics, and the article “Sugar Substitutes” covers the different types of artificial sweeteners such as saccharine, sucralose, and aspartame.

American Diabetes Wholesale’s Product Spotlight goes in tangent with the main article, and covers our Sugar Substitutes category of diabetic products.
