Relaxation Filled Weekend…Hopefully

November 12th, 2008 by Chris S

Hopefully this weekend is going to be a relaxed filled one.  I do not have any plans directly, however something always pops up and it gets hectic.  I plan on going to the driving range sometime this weekend, hopefully Saturday and then actually going golfing sometime on Sunday, but who knows, probably won’t get around to either one of them.  Sunday night is a big night because it is the Eagles – Giants game which is definitely going to mess with my blood sugar levels.

Sunday is also going to be a day that I am going out for pizza for dinner for my girlfriend’s grandfather’s birthday, so that right there also always screws with my blood sugar.  So that should be a fun night filled with testing my levels constantly.  Another thing this weekend is that I think my girlfriend is going to start on her photo album of our cruise, she always makes some awesome scrapbooking things…. hmmm maybe a business idea.  Send us your pics and she will scrapbook them for you!  Any buyers?  Well, I should probably ask her first huh?

Well you all have a great, safe weekend, and come back Monday to see how my sugars were throughout the game…. if you care…….later!

1 Day Left to Cruise….and World Series Champs!

November 12th, 2008 by Chris S

Only one more day left before my cruise to the Bahamas, and it definitely doesn’t seem like it.  I’m not even sure that I am prepared to go, actually I’m not!  I have to make sure that I get all of my stuff together tonight so I’m ready to go tomorrow morning when it is time to leave.  I believe that on Saturday we will be spending all day at the Atlantis Hotel area, but I don’t know.  I’d like to witness the night life in the Bahamas, but I’m a little hesitant to take a taxi back to the ship at around midnight, any suggestions from anybody?

Second, can I get feedback from those of you who have gone on cruises while being diabetic?  Is it a hassle to get on board or do they strip you down and find every single lancet you have in your bag and wonder why you have some wire coming out of your stomach into your pocket?  I’ve dealt with it at the airport sometimes and some people are just ignorant to the fact that Diabetes exists and the certain technology and equipment that we need to survive.

Well, we are World Series Champions!!!!!  I can’t remember the last time my city has won a championship…… that’s right because I wasn’t even born yet!!!!  This Saturday is my 24 birthday, and it’s been 25 years since the last championship in Philly.  Damn it feels good!

Vacation 2008 is Over Already :(

August 14th, 2008 by Chris S

I am back from vacation!!  It was way too short.  I didn’t go anywhere, but my family came down here for my graduation ceremony.  It wasn’t as bad as I first thought it was going to be.  The President of Florida Atlantic Univeristy is actually a very good speaker, great in fact.  Other then that, it was just a lot of relaxation at the pool and the beach.  It was good to have the family down for a little bit.

My brother, sister-in-law, my girlfriend and myself went to the Miami Seaquarium and it was a lot of fun.  Even though it was about 100 degrees outside, we had a great time with all of the shows and killer whale and dolphins.  Now today, it is back to realty and a lot of work to do.

Anyway, no bowling and blogging Monday today because we had to pre-bowl yesterday because my girlfriend’s family is visiting and they are all going down to Dave and Buster’s tonight.  I bowled the best series of my life yesterday.  The first game was a 148, then i followed that up with a 217 and a 216.  I was just in a zone yesterday, I used a different ball and didn’t listen to anybody’s suggestions on moving this way, or doing this, just went up and threw the ball and made my own adjustments.

I had a lot of fighting with the insurance companies… to be continued tomorrow!

Well I’ll get back to blogging this week, I promise.

A Magical Birthday

July 8th, 2008 by Chris S

So Friday I ventured off to Orlando with my girlfriend for her birthday (yes we found silver heels!)  First thing of the night was going to Downtown Disney and visiting Cirque Du Soleil.  If you have not witnessed this event live, you MUST!  It was the most incredible, shocking, speechless thing on earth.  I want to go back again already.  At times there is so much going on that you don’t know what to look at.  But overall, it was magical.

After that, we headed over to Pleasure Island because my girlfriend would be 21 in 15 minutes, so we stand in line to get into a club and at 11:54 exactly they say “I’m sorry but you have to wait 6 minutes”  I was furiated because I timed the line wrong and figured it would be midnight by the time we got up there.  So we went back in line and made it right at midnight.  We had a lot of fun in the “Motions” nightclub, and then headed over to the “BET Soundstage” for about 15 minutes.  I was pretty disappointed in the fact it only stayed open until 2 a.m., I would have figured at least 4.

Saturday morning came and we spent all day (10:00 a.m. – 12:30 a.m.) at Magic Kingdom.  We were able to accomplish every single ride and attraction to see.  We watched the fireworks, which are just magical and worth the price of a ticket by themselves.  They give you a little button that says “Today is my birthday” and when I went in March with my aunt, they gave her free water, ice cream, and etc. at every place we went, my girlfriend did not get a single thing free i was mad.  Well, she did get happy birthday sang to her at the Noodle Station (in Tomorrowland) and they gave her a little dessert!

One of the things that made my day had nothing to do with Magic Kingdom.  We asked a gentleman to take our picture and he did and as I was walking away I heard him say, “Hey, are you diabetic?”  And I turned around and proudly said, “Yes, I am for almost 5 years now.”  He pointed to his daughter, about 7-8 years old, and says, “she is too, she’s had it since she was 8, show him her pump honey”  She showed me her pump, same one I had.  Then came the cutest thing I ever heard in my life (I can’t believe I just said cute), she looked at me and said, “My last number was 104, what was yours?”  I responded with, “I haven’t tested for a few hours, but it was 180?, and the best advice I ever had followed, “Well, thats a little high, you should probably test again!”

Like I said, a magical experience!

New House and Silver Heels!

June 27th, 2008 by Chris S

Well, I think it has been settled where my next place of living is going to be.  A nice 2 story, 2 master bedrooms, and 2.5 baths, for only $1,100 a month.  It all sounds good to me.  Life has been crazy busy lately, so I haven’t really been able to post anything on here.  Also, nothing exciting has been going on either.  I do have an exciting night tonight of going looking for silver heels for my girlfriend for this weekend since we are going to Orlando for her birthday.  I mentioned earlier in a post about not being able to tell anybody what I was planning because it was a surprise, but I told her so now I can tell all of you.

I am taking her to Orlando to go to Cirque du Soleil and then to Pleasure Island afterwords for when she turns 21 at midnight.  The next day we will be going to Magic Kingdom and spend the day with the Princesses, since that is what she is.

Well, I must finish up some things before I head out of the office.  Have a great day everybody!

A Week Full of Family Vacation

May 15th, 2008 by Chris S

Sorry I haven’t blogged in a while my parents came down to visit me last week, so I was swamped, and I was only stopping by the office for a little bit so I have been catching up on everything here. It was fun to have my parent’s come down for a week, it was too short though, I will admit that. I had my blood sugar reminder for a week also (Mom). “I haven’t seen you test all day, you better test, what was your sugar, don’t eat that it’s too much sugar, CHRISTOPHER!!”

I still had the really high morning sugars though the whole week, so she didn’t like those. I have raised my 3:00 a.m. basal to 2.0, it will probably have to go higher even still. Which we all know what that means, more insulin used, faster I have to re-order my supplies, sooner another insurance company tells me know, lower my bank statement goes because I have to pay out of pocket for them. Turning 23 was cool at first, until you get those letters from the insurance company telling your parent’s that you are no longer covered.

Anyway enough with that. Today’s free Dunkin Donuts coffee is just… well fantastic. They are going to do it every Thursday for next 3-4 weeks. Is anybody else this darn excited about it. Also, who else is excited that the Philadelphia Eagles’ mini camp is coming up within the month. If you are an Eagles fan and you read my blog, please let me know, because I am going to make a nice little section for all of us. I have a little nickname from friends, they call me “Diabetic Dawkins.” My parents haven’t seen my apartment in a really long time, since 3 weeks after I moved in, so they were amazed by how much Eagles stuff I had. Blankets, pillows, pictures, posters, plates, cups, you name it, its there.

Well, I must be gone…. Fly Eagles Fly!!

Filled out Graduation Paperwork

March 30th, 2008 by Chris S

So yesterday I met with my advisor and filled out the paperwork for graduation. I only have one more class left in the summer that I must take in order to graduate. Which my advisor said I would probably need an A to make my chances easier to get into grad school. Depending on my GMAT scores, if I dont’ get an A I can still get in.

I can’t imagine what my sugar levels are going to be like when I am studying for the GMAT. Also, the day of the GMAT. They will probably go really low, because they always do when I get nervous. I doubt other students would like me to pull out a meter and test myself in the middle of one of the most important tests that they have ever taken in their life.

I will be going back up to Orlando for another 1 day trip to see my nieces who are going to DisneyWorld for the very first time. I am very, very excited. Next week is the big A1C test though, so starting to get a little nervous for that.
