Insulin Pump

June 28th, 2007 by Chris S

What is it?  How does it work?  Does it hurt?  What am I getting myself into??!!!???  These were all the things that flew through my head when I heard the mention of using an insulin pump.  The first thing that drew my attention was, it meant I didn’t have to an insulin pen every single time I ate and no more syringe with Lantus at night before bedtime.  After doing extensive research on the pump, I decided to go on the pump for good.  And it was the best decision I ever made.

I was 20 when I first went on the pump.  It was scary at first, learning all the buttons and what exactly the pump can do, but it became my new best friend.  I now no longer needed to go into the bathroom before eating dinner in order to take a shot of insulin from my pen.  I can now stay at the table and just hit a few buttons on the pump, and insulin pumps into my body.

So, my advice to anybody who is contemplating going on the pump, do some research on the style of pump you will be using and the best way to understand it, is by talking to somebody who is using it now.  I am here to help you with any questions that you would have about being on the pump.
