New Study Makes Progress Towards a Cure
July 11th, 2007 by Chris SI recently came across an article today that was about a study that was published in the July edition of Journal of the Science of Food and Agriculture. Basically, a pumpkin extract was used on type 1 diabetic rats to see the effect that it had on them. In the study, the pumpkin extract helped lower the blood sugar levels of the T1 diabetics, but did not affect the rats that did not have diabetes. Follow the link to read the full article about the study.

This new discovery gives me a great deal of confidence in the search for a cure for diabetes. Although a cure may not come in my lifetime, with the fact that my future children may be at risk to be diabetic, it makes me feel great that these discoveries are happening. Unfortunately, I don’t think that there is a big enough effort to find a cure.
The cures for cancer and AIDS are just as important as any other cure, but unfortunately for diabetics, the cure for diabetes does not receive as much attention because it is a more manageable disease than cancer and AIDS. Funding from the government is a must, and just simply writing a letter to your local representative could help in this struggle for a cure.
Everyday of my life I wear a red wristband from the
ADA that says “Cure Care Commitment.” These three C’s are important to me. In order to find a cure, we need more people to care, and the more people that care the larger a commitment we can get in the fight to find a cure.
Help me reach my goal of raising $1,000 to help find a cure.
