Insurance companies know how to ruin a great day
July 12th, 2007 by Chris S1 vial of insulin left, which means time to go to the pharmacy to refill my prescription. On the way to the pharmacy I had a weird feeling inside of me that something was going to go wrong in the refilling process. Since my insulin is on a 90 day prescription, and I knew it hasn’t been 90 days, the insurance company, once again was going to have a little something to say about that.
So I went in to pick up the prescription, and guess what happened? The pharmacist says, “Unfortunately it is going to cost you full price because the insurance will not cover this prescription until July 17.” I was furious, once again. The insurance company would rather me go almost a week without insulin and end up in a coma, rather then give me the insulin I need with just a co-pay.
This is not the first time this has happened either. It happened before when I didn’t have an extra vial of insulin, my last vial dropped out of my hand and cracked open and I didn’t have an extra one. They still would not give me the insulin. The local pharmacy was nice enough to give me a free vial because of the circumstances. Good to know there is somebody out there who cares.
And please don’t get me started on the insurance company repeatedly sending me the cheapest, most painful lancets, instead of the one touch ultra ones that I typically use. Good thing there is some people and companies that care about getting me the correct supplies and insulin I need to survive.
