So the time has come once again for that almighty A1C time. I don’t know what is worse, waiting to find out if I passed a final exam or if my A1C is within the goal range that I have for myself. Obviously the A1C is more important, but the final exam thing I think is more stressful. Why is that?
I get stressed out that my A1c is going to be a bad number, but if I have been managing my sugars good for the past 3 months, then I really shouldn’t have much to worry and stress about. Because when I stress over that my blood sugars go up then.
Wish me luck that my numbers will be in a good range.

I haven’t posted on here in a while, sorry. As those of who have read my recent posts know that I have been in the process of moving, and have not had the luxury of internet in order to post or read others. So I am a little behind and lost in what has been going on in the lives of fellow d-bloggers.Â
I’m now trying to plan for my brother’s bachelor party, since I am the best man. I think we’re in order for a deep sea fishing trip in sunny
South Florida. Sounds fun, as long as I come prepared with enough juice or something else to cover a low in case I get one in the middle of the
Atlantic Ocean.Â
I used to get scared that I was going to get really low when I am flying, until I realized there is plenty of juice and sugary things on the plane that I wouldn’t need to freak out. What would be on board a charter fishing boat? Raw fish bait? Would there be enough sugar in that in an extreme emergency?Â
That leads me to my desire for there to be a survivor show for diabetics. I like these shows that show you how to survive in the wild, but unfortunately I need to overcome another obstacle and keeping my sugar high. What plants or bugs can I eat in order to keep my sugar high? There needs to be a show in order to help me in case I was ever stranded in the middle of nowhere. I think I could survive if I wasn’t diabetic, but I don’t know how well I would do when you threw in that curve ball.Â
Does anybody else think this is a good idea for a TV show, or am I alone in wanting to know how to survive in the wild with diabetes? Please let me know if there are others out there wanting to see a show about this also, and maybe we can get somebody to finally do a show.

I’m starting to do a little research between the paradigm insulin pump I have now, or switching to the Omni Pod. First off, if anybody has any good information or prefers one over the other, please let me know, it is obviously a big decision to make if I am going to actually change.
Â
It’s not just going to come down to the comfort and the ease of using it, but also the cost of the supplies for the Omni Pod. I am already paying out of pocket for my insulin pump supplies, so if the other supplies are more expensive, then I just can’t afford to switch over.
Â
The wire of the pump does not bother me 95% of the time, but there are times when it gets caught up on the door knob, or the pump falls out of my pocket and it pulls on the infusion set, which hurts like hell at times. Of course I can’t just go by what the advertisements say for both products, because they are always way to one sided. I need some feedback from my fellow d-bloggers to help me out.
I have found during some of my research that Omni Pod does not offer a data software program that coincides with it. I do not always use my software management for the Paradigm, but I do at times, and would like to have that option available to me.What kinds of supplies are needed for the Omni Pod? Does anybody know how much they cost?

I have heard about this in the past, but I thought maybe it was just a rumor and not a real product. A cell phone that you can test your sugar on. How crazy is technology getting today. Now a days you can check your mail, weather, sports scores, watch videos, do everything on your phone. And to us diabetics, we can now test our sugar levels.
I don’t have the type of phone that it is being used on, and do not intend on switching from my Palm Trio, but if they can make something for that phone, then I am willing to give it a shot.
So, I moved in to my new apartment over the weekend, and my stress level has finally gone down, and I am back to testing 5-6 times a day again. On the moving day, I had 3 lows of 55, 70, and then 65 throughout the day. Luckily I had some Skittles with me twice, and sugar tabs the other. It was almost 100 degrees and I was sweating so bad my sugar levels were dropping like crazy.
Back to a normal diet also. No more fast food everyday because I had no time to cook and then do dishes either. I have no cable yet, so I did not get to watch the latest DLife. It’s also about the time for me to re-order insulin and other supplies. I better get to that now before I get side tracked once again.

I’m all packed and ready to move into the new apartment tomorrow, all excited. I bought new furniture, tv, appliances, and then the phone call comes in…. You can’t move in tomorrow without a co-signor, since your fresh out of college. “Ok, so I’m just supposed to live on the streets for a few days as a diabetic?”
Some people are so set in their ways and have no care about anybody, diabetic or not. The leasing community is rich and has a lot of money, and they don’t care about us little people down on the food chain. I’m tired of all of this stuff, and the worst part is, is that I am still not testing the right amount of time.
But on a better note, the Eagles have their first pre-season game on Monday the 13th. McNabb is doing a lot better since his injury last year. I feel his pain, I tore my ACL in the middle of a football game in college also, its a long and hard rehab process. McNabb is also very committed to the fight for a cure for diabetes also. He has people in his family that are diabetic, and I attended a a golf tournament a few years back that he held in order to raise money to find a cure.
Its one thing to just sign a check and say, ok I contributed, compared to someone who will go to work and do more then just sign a check and put their name out there for publicity. McNabb is one of the celebrities that will get down and dirty and do whatever it is he can to help find a cure. Like I have said before, it takes more than just money in order to find a cure. It takes the committment to do it also. It is good to know and to see people with the money showing a little bit of committment.Â
It also makes it better that he is the best quartback in the NFL, playing for the best team in the NFL.

I came across this article today and it is really scary and made me think about my insurance issues that will be coming up in the near future. I will be turning 23 in a few months, and graduating college in less then year, so that means….. mommy and daddy’s insurance will no longer cover me, and what am I going to do?
I’m no longer even fully covered now, as it is anymore anyway. So supplies can be tough already at this point, but what am I going to do if I have zero, no insurance at all? I have somewhere that I order from now that gives me great prices, but why must insurance companies be so damn complicated.
Here is the link to the article if you are interested in reading more about it. It is a harsh truth that, like many others who deal with it already, I will have to deal with it in the near future.

As some of you may have noticed, I have not posted in a few days. And if you have read my recent posts, you know I have been incredibly stressed lately. I’m supposed to move on Friday, and I’m still not even 100% sure that I even have the new place, but I’m a little more confident today, which has relieved my stress a little bit.
My sugars the past few days though, have been surprisingly normal. Last week’s stress had them all crazy and out of whack, and I was eating on the run and just ordering fast food and eating greasy, nasty food. And not to mention A LOT of coffee, which I still don’t know what to believe about that. You know the saying, two sides to every story, this story seems to have about six different sides to the story.
Now, I am ready to begin a new adventure, diving into a CGMS device. Still doing some research and debating whether or not I want to do it. I went to a luncheon about MiniMed’s new one coming out, don’t remember the name though.
I’ll keep you all up to date when I do decide to try some things out.

Life has been so hectic the past two weeks. Went from part time hours to working over 40 hours this past week. Doing this, doing that. Moving into a new apartment, who of course is draining as much money from my pocket as they actually can.
I wanted to be able to attend the AADE Conference this weekend, but unfortunately I had zero time to go and do that. Always the next one, right? And in the mist of all this, guess who hasn’t been testing their blood sugar reguraly. I have 5 sugars logged in my book since Tuesday.
And 4 out of 5 were over 200. Not too good. I need to get my priorities straight and test more often. Take time out of my busy day of work, and just test!!
Things aren’t going to be settling down next week much either. I’ll have even more things to do starting next week. I promise all of the diabetic community, I will test more.

I came across this cool contest when I was purchasing my supplies. It’s a CDE of the year contest… I already suggested mine, she’s pretty good, so it may be to tough :) I think its time we show appreciation to these people who inform us of all the ways to control our lives, so diabetes doesn’t control us.
Take a few minutes to fill it out, the link is posted here.

I have have a chance to sit down and relax and turn on my laptop. Yesterday and the day before were so hectic that I haven’t even had a chance to sit down at my desk and turn on my laptop. And that also means that I haven’t been testing my sugars the way I should be. I’ve been guessing, not good
I didnt feel any lows, and didnt have any symptoms of a high either, but you can never tell if it is around 250-300, its still high, but I don’t have any signs of a level like that.
That is one reason I have been trying to find a little more information regarding the CGMS. The new one from the paradigm gives you a reading every 5 minutes. Sounds like something I could use.
Please, somebody give me some input and your suggestions about your CGMS and if it is worth it, if it isn’t, which is good, which is bad, whatever information you have, the better.
