Mom, The Ultimate Blood Sugar Reminder

October 3rd, 2007 by Chris S

This past weekend my parents flew down here to South Florida to visit me for a few days.  We also had to drive up to North Carolina to visit with a friend who just returned back from Iraq.  But, with my mother being down here for a little, I had my constant reminder to test my sugar.

When I lived at home and was recently diagnosed I tested all the time with no problems, but after a while I started to slack off and was guessing a lot and my mom would always say, “I didn’t see you test before you ate,” “You don’t even have your meter with you,” then when she does see the meter come out, it’s always, “What was your sugar, was it high, how high was it?”

I know she is trying to help and make sure that I am testing when I am supposed to, but of course I do not want to hear that constantly, so when they were down here, I tested all the time that way those conversations did not have to happen.

My most shocking blood sugar was how after eating the never ending pasta bowl at Olive Garden (3 bowls) plus about 6 bowls of salad, my blood sugar was 115 an hour later.  It was my one day to just go all out and eat as much as I wanted to.  Although I did have to guess on the amount of insulin I had to take, I guesstimated pretty damn well I must say.  But I will not being doing that anytime soon.  Because of course after a little vacation it is now “diet time.”

My brother’s wedding is now exactly one month away and my weight is 216, and I wanted to be at about 205 for his wedding, good luck to me huh?  I need all the support and encouragement from everybody to try to lose this weight, while still maintaing my blood sugar levels.
