Started eating healthy and exercising again yesterday. I had a salad for lunch and some chicken with very little pasta on the side last night for dinner. I played tennis for a little over an hour last night. I used to play lightly against my girlfriend, but she has become really good, so I have to play a lot harder and sweat a lot more and run around the court a lot more.
Some big hockey games coming up this weekend, along with a big basketball game for my Spartans of Michigan State. That should be really good on my blood sugar levels. Speaking of blood sugar levels, I have to set up my next A1C bloodwork soon. Last time I got it done was the very end of December so I am due for it right about now. I don’t think the number is going to be that great, because I had a lot of highs this past month, and I haven’t been eating really healthy.
Well you all have a splendid day!

This weekend was a somewhat relaxing weekend. Saturday was the local JDRF walk and it was a lot of fun. I was actually asked to go on stage and be a judge in the t-shirt design contest. It was so tough because I wanted to choose them all but unfortunately I couldn’t. Later Saturday night I was not doing anything so I decided to finally set up the CGMS. After attempting to input the first sensor, with shaky hands because I was nervous, I didn’t do it correctly so it started to bleed. So, I attempted again, with a little more bravery and confidence. This one went in successfully. It was working fine and then after about 15 minutes my pump was giving me the symbol that it was not communicating properly with the sensor. I was able to set it up, but still wasn’t fully confident and comfortable with how it worked, so I decided to turn it off and attempt to do it again another time.
I will spend a little more time figuring out exactly how it works, because now I have no problem inserting it because after 2 somewhat succesful tries, I think I’m ok with it now. Wish me luck on the continued success of my CGMS.

I have been doing a horrible job of actually posting on my blog, I am going to start doing it a lot more. I just find that a lot of times, I don’t have many diabetes related things to post about everyday. Sunday night I actually had another high that was pretty bad. It took me a long time to bring it back down. My meter just read, “HI”. I took 25 units of insulin and tried to just go back to sleep and finally after waking up several times to go to the bathroom, I got it down to a manageable level.
Other than that not much else has been going on. Just working a lot, lot, lot. I went to a clinic today to help out with Diabetes Alert Day. There was free glucose screenings, blood pressure screenings, and neuropathy checks. I was helping hand out “Goodie-bags” to those that decided to sit through the lectures and the screenings. It is good to be there to help out with these free screenings to alert people that they may be at risk for diabetes.
This weekend is the local JDRF walk, I’ve been collecting some money, so I am looking forward to being one of the top individual fundraisers. Can’t wait.

I went to the driving range this weekend, and it was the first time that my pump gave me a problem when I went. It was pretty hot out, so I was sweating, so one time I ripped into one with my driver and my pump fell out of my pocket and pulled my infusion set right out. But I only had a quarter of bucket of balls left, so I kept on hitting. As soon as I got back to my car, I tested and my sugar was about 150, so I knew I was good until I got home. Once I got home, I took a shower, replaced the infusion set, tested again and was 185, not too bad. I ate lunch and tested 2 hours later, and I was back down to about 120-ish. I played a round of golf one time where I disconnected everytime I walked up to the tee and to the ball, and it was just really annoying, so I just trained myself to play with the pump on.
My other blood sugar scare was later that night however. I went to the Florida Panthers game, and when I got there I felt really thirsty so tested my sugar and I was about 375, how the hell did this happen I haven’t ate anything for like 4 hours. I was starving and had to eat something, so I didn’t know what to do. So I took 25 units of insulin (the max bolus on my pump) and then as soon as that one was done, I took anothe 25. I know it’s not the best solution, but I didn’t have anymore pens, so I had to do something! Tested after the first period, down to 250, tested after the second period, down to 110, tested after the game before we got on the Turnpike, dropping to about 75, so I ate some Skittles for the 20 minute ride home.
Later that night we went out to a local hangout, Hurricane’s in Delray, and my sugars were fine, but I started to feel a little low again, so luckily my amazing girlfriend had some Skittles handy in her purse. Her purse fits my little meter and skittles perfectly!
Saturday was a pretty eventful blood sugar day!

My new diet is off to a decent start, two days into it. I have stayed under 1,200 calories both days, and am still trying to do so today. I am cutting out going to dinner and lunch for a few weeks also. I am going out to dinner tonight however, but will eat healthy. The place I am going to, Grumpy Grouper, I only ever get this chicken and rice meal, it’s the only thing there that I like. The problem is that I usually eat what my girlfriend hasn’t finished, but tonight I will not. I will take her’s to go and eat it for lunch tomorrow.
My eating habits are getting better, but I didn’t go to the gym last night because I didn’t get home from work until about 6:30, ate dinner, then the Panthers game was on at 7:30, so I was lazy. This is the main problem right now is that when I get home from work, I am so exhausted that I don’t feel like going to the gym. It’s a mental thing, mental toughness is the key, so I will just have to fight that laziness head on.
Well, you all have a wonderful day. My posts are getting boring, I guess I need something exciting to happen in life! But maybe that is a good thing, that I am not posting about these hospital visits, and bad doctor’s appointments, etc.

I didn’t accomplish my goal of setting up my CGMS over this weekend, but tonight I am going to start using the new pump, I promise! I have nothing to do after the gym tonight, no sports to watch or anything, so I will be all free to do it. My sugars this weekend were pretty good. The past few Sundays my sugars were sky high, but some reason this weekend they weren’t. My new diet starts again today. I dropped like 15 to start off the new year, but of course put it right back on, but this time it is not going to come back on. I have way too many clothes that I don’t fit into anymore, and it’s a waste of money to have all those clothes sitting around not wearing them.
I will be seeing a new endo and educator sometime this month, so I am pretty excited about that! Well it is a Monday morning, so time to get back to work!
