1 More Day To Vacation

May 20th, 2009 by Chris S

My parents are flying in tomorrow for a well deserved short little vacation.  This obviously means eating very, very, very bad.  I am going to try and put a control on the amount that I eat because I know there will be some crappy food.  I am also going to make sure that I work out every single morning.  Both of these things are going to be very difficult to do, but I am going to try my best to do it.

I also am scheduling an appointment with a new endo down here, so I am pretty excited about that.  Before I actually make the appointment though, I have to get my bloodwork done which I had to cancel my A1C test last week because I was not able to make it.

I haven’t worn my CGMS in about a week, I need to fire that thing back up and put it back on tonight.  I am going to be doing a lot of cleaning along with watching the Magic game tonight, so it should be a good time to see how up and down my sugars are reacting to the game.

Well you all have a great day now, and hope you are all submitting your story to come see the race down in Homestead Miami.

Finally Back Into the Gym!

May 13th, 2009 by Chris S

What a long, long, long day it was today.  I went back to the gym last night, so now today my body is killing me.  I ate healthy yesterday also.  Unfortunately, I did not eat as healthy as I wanted to, but it still wasn’t bad.  Breakfast yesterday I had a banana nut muffin and class of orange juice.  For lunch I had a chicken salad with a few tortilla chips.  Then when I went home before I went to the gym I had a hard boiled egg for a little bit of protein.  Then after the gym for about 35-40 minutes, I had some left overs which consisted of pasta, sausage, green peppers, onions, and salad.  So my dinner wasn’t be the best, but I hadn’t eaten too many carbs or calories throughout the day.

Today I had another muffin for breakfast and a smaller sized salad for lunch.  My sugar went low twice today so I had some Skittles and Airheads throughout the day, so that didn’t help too much.  I will eat the same snack before the gym tonight and most likely the same thing for dinner, however, probably without the pasta (my roommate probably got to it before me!)

It’s amazing how great just going to the gym makes you feel.  You may not have lost any weight, but you feel that your body at least looks thinner.  It’s just the first few days that make it hard to get into a groove and habit.

Well you all have an amazing night now.

Mother’s Day Weekend Sugar Levels

May 11th, 2009 by Chris S

Well, my A1C test was supposed to be this morning, but I had to reschedule it.  I only allow one person to do it, and they were sick, so I had to cancel.  I am just weird about who I let draw blood from me.  My grandmother did it for me when I lived in PA, so when I moved to FL, it was really scary the first time somebody else had to do it.

On to other news, my girlfriend’s brother’s high school graduation party was on Saturday night and I ate a lot, but my blood sugars were at good numbers.  Even with all the pasta and cake and beer.  Then yesterday we had the same food, leftovers, and had some more cake for Mother’s Day, and my sugars went a little high after that.  So far today my numbers have been a little high also, and I don’t really know why.  I woke up at 215, went down to about 130 around lunch and my CGMS just said 210, but on it’s way down.  Sometimes I just don’t understand.

I can’t wait to get back into the gym tonight.  My parents come down in less then 10 days, so I guess I need to start losing some weight.  Don’t feel like getting that lecture from mom about losing weight and being over weight isn’t good for the diabetes, blah blah blah blah blah.  I already know this stuff!

Well I hope you all had a wonderful Mother’s Day, and have a great day today!

A1C, Magic and Diabetes, Random Thoughts of this diabetic!

May 5th, 2009 by Chris S

Last week’s Diabetes Educator of the Year award ceremony was great.  I was honored with a nice little plaque and watching the winner receive her award was great also.  Diabetes Education is so important and this award really means a lot to me, which is why I accepted to be a judge for it.

I have started exercising again and eating a little lighter, so I am excited to begin my weight loss again.  My parents are coming down for vacation later this month, so I need to make myself look somewhat skinnier.  Plus, I have a lot of trade shows coming up over the next few months, so I have to fit myself back into all those nice dress clothes that I have.  I hate eating myself out of a new pair of jeans.

Orlando Magic started their series last night with Boston and before the game started I said to my girlfriend, “I hope this series isn’t like Boston’s first round, with all the overtime games, my heart can’t take something like that”  And what do you know, they were up like 30 and the Celtics came back to about 4 with a few minutes to go.  This stuff isn’t great for a diabetic!

My A1C is scheduled for next Monday, but it is a non-fasting one, so I better eat healthy Sunday night, so I don’t wake up with a high blood sugar, because that just makes the blood work even worse, especially if my A1C level is too high.

Sorry for the randomness, but my mind is just all over the place.

Have  a great day everybody!
