Yesterday I flew up to Jacksonville FL to attend the dinner reception for Camp JADA. It was another great kids camps that I was honored to be able to attend. You meet so many wonderful little kids and their excitement level is crazy! But then there was the trip back home.
This trip consisted of, going to bed at 12:30 a.m. Waking up at 3:45 a.m. Going to the airport at 4:30 a.m. Flying from 6:30 – 7:30 a.m. Driving straight to work, and here I am. I am on coffee # 4 already and it is only 10 a.m. This should be an interesting day.
Anyway, on to other things. My blog will be going through a complete re-design shortly. So, when I update my blogroll, finally, and I missed your site, don’t hesitate to let me know. The new blog will have a more personal touch to it, basically, a lot more pictures and interactivity.
Have a great day everybody!

I have been doing a horrible job of actually posting on my blog, I am going to start doing it a lot more. I just find that a lot of times, I don’t have many diabetes related things to post about everyday. Sunday night I actually had another high that was pretty bad. It took me a long time to bring it back down. My meter just read, “HI”. I took 25 units of insulin and tried to just go back to sleep and finally after waking up several times to go to the bathroom, I got it down to a manageable level.
Other than that not much else has been going on. Just working a lot, lot, lot. I went to a clinic today to help out with Diabetes Alert Day. There was free glucose screenings, blood pressure screenings, and neuropathy checks. I was helping hand out “Goodie-bags” to those that decided to sit through the lectures and the screenings. It is good to be there to help out with these free screenings to alert people that they may be at risk for diabetes.
This weekend is the local JDRF walk, I’ve been collecting some money, so I am looking forward to being one of the top individual fundraisers. Can’t wait.

What a long weekend this was, and short at the same time. Does that make any sense? Saturday morning was an early morning because the Panthers had an open practice, so of course I had to go to try and get some autographs. We did get there a little late, so there wasn’t any autographs that I could get. We did get to watch a little of the practice and then some of the Bruins practice also. I then had to run over the site of the ADA’s Pembroke Pines Tour de Cure to drop off some supplies to them. Then my girlfriend and I had to kill time before the 7 p.m. Panther’s game. We went to a mall and then over to the Sawgrass Mills. We had some dinner and then it was time to go to the game. And what a game it was, 2-0, 41 save shutout for the Panthers. It was amazing in there, loud, play-off atmosphere! My sugar was running a little high because my insulin was running low. I didn’t realize when I left the house in the morning I only had about 60 units of insulin for the next 12 hours. That may be a lot for some people, but I have a 2.1 basal rate, so that’s about 25 units right there. Plus lunch and dinner boluses, I had about 2.5 units when I got home after the game.
Yesterday was another early morning in order to be at the Tour de Cure very early. It was a great event, I wish I could have been riding. After that I went home and took a nap and prepared for the NASCAR race. Then my sugar went high. I tested and it was about 350, so I corrected. 2 hours later I tested and I was 397, doesn’t make any sense. I feel my infusion set and it is soaked, smell my fingers, and just as I suspected…..the great smell of insulin leaking! So I used my insulin pen to correct and then inserted a new infusion set.
Now, it is Monday and I am back to work. H ave a great day!

Yesterday I attended the local JDRF Greater West Palm Beach Chapter’s kick-off luncheon. The walk is on Saturday, March 28 in Boca Raton. The luncheon was amazing. The food was great, the planning was great, the speeches were great, everything about it was great! I can’t wait to start fundraising and making some money. These walks are a lot of fun, and I hope a lot of people show up this year.
After the lunch I ate there yesterday, I came back to work and my blood sugar was over 300. So as motivated as I was after I left there to manage better, I must have miscalculated on the amount of insulin I needed.
Well it is lunch time and I just tested and my sugar is 78, so I better go grab something quickly.
Good day ya’ll

This past Saturday was our local ADA walk. It was down where the Panthers play their home games, and they just so happened to have a home game on Saturday too. So I was faced with a dilemna, do I stay down there from 11 a.m. until 7 when the game starts and go over the Sawgrass Mall. Or do I go home and then come back down for the game? Or, do I just not go to the game at all?
The Panthers were having an open practice so I went in and watched it for a while. As I was leaving I stopped at a table to pick up a schedule and a sales rep came over and gave me free tickets 9 rows behind the glass, so I couldn’t beat that. We stopped over at the Sawgrass and decided we needed to go home and take a nap. So that was the decision, drive home and then drive right back down. After a fantastic game and talking with the sales rep, I received an early birthday present, season tickets to the Panthers!
Now, relating this all to my diabetes. If I hadn’t of had diabetes, I would not have been at the walk, so I wouldn’t have gone to the open practice, nor received the free tickets. If I didn’t receive the free tickets, I wouldn’t have met the sales rep, who would not have sold me season tickets, so I would have never became a season ticket holder. So, thanks to my diabetes, I now get my name engraved into a seat at the Bank Atlantic Center.
Isn’t diabetes great!

The JDRF walk this past Saturday was great. There were so many people there, probably close to about 3,000. With the minimum donation being about $100, that had to be a great outcome. Now it’s time to start collecting for the ADA walks later this year. I’ll be holding some local fundraisers for different events in the area, so if you live in the south Florida region, keep up with the posts because there may be things you want to help out with.
I’ve been controlling my eating habits the past couple of days, and my sugars have been more stable. I am trying hard to fight the hunger problems. Yogurt has been the most frequented food, and yogurt smoothies. I played tennis the other day for about 10 minutes because I caught up with my girlfriend and her mom when they were just finishing and tired out.
A1C test is next week, hopefully it turns out well as well as the JDRF walk did!

I just have one question, how do you all find time to blog everyday? I know I’m not the only one who is extremely busy and doesn’t even have time to eat some days, but how do you manage to do it. I try to because it does calm the nerves and relieves the stress in the middle of the day. I’ve been a little worried about my blood sugar levels throughout the night because I just keep waking up with like 300 levels. I have tried so many damn things. Eating Taco Bell last night I know didn’t help.
Also, yesterday I was so busy at work that I totally forgot to eat lunch. I ate at 8:30, testing throughout the day. At about noon my level was 123, and then I didn’t test again until about 5, and without eating all day, my sugar went up to 230. I don’t know why my sugar goes up when I don’t eat, I always expect it to go the opposite way.
Our local JDRF walk is coming up this Saturday. It’s at the beautiful Mizner Park in Boca Raton, FL. If you’re in the area, please come out and join us, it should be fun! Please, you can support the fight for the cure!

I came across this little article this morning that talks about a pizzaria in Tacoma, WA that makes a whole wheat pizza dough. I know there are other places out there that must do the same thing, I just have not heard of any yet.
The pizza was inspired by a young kid who wanted to know if there was anything in the pizza place to eat, but unfortunately there was not. So the owner created this pizza for him. This is such a wonderful story of a local small business owner doing what he can to help the fight against Diabetes.
There needs to be more action taken like this. The more people who pick up against the fight the better off the whole world will be. The diabetes epidemic is starting to get out of control, and the publicity is not at the level that it needs to be at. I respect breast cancer, and Aids, and malnutrition, but Diabetes is not as well known, and it should be.
I give thanks to all of the fellow d-bloggers who give all of us a voice in the world, and together we will all make a difference in the world of Diabetes

Happy World Diabetes Day everybody. It feels good to have a day that I am actually part of. It is great to honor our veterans on Veterans day and Memorial day, but it’s great to spread the word about Diabetes too.
It is an accomplishment to have this day, but there still needs to be more. If Diabetes could get half the attention and publicity that breast cancer receives, we could educate so many more people and possibly prevent the diagnosis of so many more Diabetics.
But enough about that, today for me is to celebrate my Diabetes. I am proud to be a diabetic, its part of who I am. It has made me stronger, responsible, mentally tough, and mature well beyond my years. Yes, my life has changed since the day I was diagnosed, but this is for sure, I control my Diabetes, it doesn’t control me.
So for all of you who are trying to spread the word of Diabetes, its complications, preventions, fundraising, dieting, whatever it is you are doing on your World Diabetes Day, I thank you.

I am back to blogging and I promise I will be posting again at least three times a week. I am going to try to get it up five times a week, but three I will guruantee. My life has been so hectice lately, I really have not had anytime to sit down and blog. My diabetes has been under pretty good control lately, I have been satisfied with my numbers. I am waiting for my A1C number to see if I will be satisfied with that number also.
I am taking 5 different classes and working also, which does not really leave me too much time to be looking online at blogs, but I am trying. I’ve also been really busy trying to collect money for the ADA walk coming up on October 27. It is important to me to raise funds for the Step Out to Fight Diabetes campaign. There are three local walks within three consectutive weeks, but unfortunately, I can only attend one.
I’m still trying to lose some weight for my brother’s wedding in November, but that hasn’t been going too well. When I eat healthier and less my sugar levels are so much better, although lows tend to happen so much more often though.
Once again, I just want to thank everybody who does read my blog, it makes me feel like my voice is finally being heard.
