Another Monday. This weekend went by a little fast, they all do now. Friday night I went to the movies and saw “Orphan” It was an ok movie, I pretty much knew what was going to happen at the end about 30 minutes into the movie which kind of made the rest of the movie suck. I think I have seen way too many movies, maybe I should just try not to think during movies and just watch them. Saturday was extremely boring, I didn’t really do much of anything. I finished watching the Benjamin Button movie which is just weird. All the while, my blood sugars were perfect! Sunday was a different story however.
In the morning on Sunday I went golfing, which I am frustrated with because I putted like crap because I was being rushed and I could have possibly shot under 90 if I putted like I normally putt. Anyway, after golfing I was really hungry and I hadn’t really chaeated on my diet so I said screw it and went to the bad bad bad Taco Bell. And boy did I enjoy my taco bell! My b lood sugars later on at night however did not. I went up over 400 at one point and was very thirsty. Being dehydrated from golfing didn’t help much either, but it was also because of the highs.
I finally got the numbers down to a good level. 121 before I went to bed and at 3:00 a.m. I woke up sweating and feeling all weird so I downed some Skittles. Woke up with a 175, but it’s better than over 200 I am used to.
Football starts tonight, I am a little nervous, scared, and excited. I have NEVER been a head coach before, so there are a lot more responsibilities now then just coaching kids normally.
Well I hope you all have an amazing day.

What a crappy day. My blood sugar hit the 500+ mark last night in the middle of the night. Didn’t know this until I woke up to go to the bathroom about 3 times within 2 hours, a little strange so I tested and it gave me the “HI” reading. Awesome, exactly what I need on a Sunday night. So, when I wake up at 7:15, I test and it is now 375, ok, better than before. Side note, my roommate has been sick over the past few days.
Now I’m at work, and I can’t get my levels below 250 for the last 3 hours now. My stomach hurts, I feel like crap, and I think I am getting what my roommate had. What a great start to the week. Bad case of the Mondays I guess. This weekend wasn’t much better either. I think half of the weight that I lost over the past week was all put back on this weekend. A few different get togethers so my food consumption consisted of Firehouse Subs, Chili’s Olive Garden, and Wendy’s. Need I say more? I didn’t sleep much Saturday night, and my back was killing me Sunday morning.
Awesome, I hope you all have as wonderful of a day that I am.

Now I am just starting to get irritated with these morning blood sugars. It’s ok for it to happen once in a while, but every damn morning is killing me, literally. I didn’t even eat past 7:30 p.m. last night and it was stil crazy high. I was up somewhat late last night working, so that has to be what creeps it up. When I go to sleep earlier, it is not as bad. I guess for the next couple of nights I will just get to bed early and not do any work late into the night and see how that works.
On the bright side I have stuck to my plan and have made my own breakfast, lunch, and dinner everyday this week. As tempting as it is, I am sticking to it. I have gone to the gym everyday also. Heck, I even spent about 45 minutes on the bike there last night. I am down 2 pounds since Monday also. I said before, it is so easy for me to lose the first 10-15 pounds because it is just all excess fat.
That just reminded me, I have to get bloodwork done either tomorrow or early next week for my appointment next Friday. I will probably do it Tuesday of next week because tomorrow is Friday and I don’t really want to get up too early on a Friday to get blood taken out of me. Friday’s are my day to sleep in, I don’t get up util 7:45 those days.
Well, I hope you all have a wonderful day.

After dinner last night the heat wasn’t that bad so my girlfriend and I went for a walk. I had planned on going on a long one, which probably would have been about 4-5 miles, but we ended up walking about 2 miles instead, we stopped short because she was on her feet all day. I plan on doing that daily, but who knows. It’s raining bad down here today, so I definitely won’t be doing it outside, but that is what the indoor gym is about.
Last night I had to take out my sensor because it was starting to hurt a little bit and then when I took the dressing off, I saw that the actual sensor was pretty much coming out anyway, so I think that is what hurt. I didn’t re-insert a new one last night, so I just let the transmittor charge and I will put another one in again tonight. That was one of the main things that I discussed with my endo, she said that if I have a CGMS and supplies for it, why not use it every single day? So, I said, good call doc and trying to keep it on everyday. Even on the days that I am not wearing it, I still test about 8-10 times.
My morning sugars have been coming down lately, except for this morning. It was a 298 about 30 minutes after I ate breakfast. I had a bagel this morning, and when I went there I pulled out the meter in my laptop bag and I was fresh out of strips (last night I forgot to remind myself to grab another box and put in there!). So I couldn’t test before I ate, but I know that breakfast could not have raised it that much that fast, so it must have been around that when I woke up. I went to bed with a 135 sugar and had a PB&J, which usually keeps my sugars level.
Well you all have an amazing day today!

Just scheduled my A1C for next week. I know it is going to be a little higher then last time, but I know exactly why and it is my own fault, so it can be corrected and I am taking steps today to correct it. I have no time at all to make it to the gym, however, I am freeing up some time at night because exercise is extremely important. I went golfing this weekend, which was great exercise, but I am now extremely sore today.
I have planned out my meals for the entire week in order to keep my calories at a certain level. That is the easy part, now the hard part is actually following through on it. Eating at work is simple, but more difficult once I get home, I know it’s usually the other way around, but that’s how it is for me. Salads for lunch, and over eat for dinner, same story.
My blood sugar levels while I was golfing were pretty steady. It is a great sport to be able to blame a bad shot on a low blood sugar. Everytime that I sliced a ball, it was only because my blood sugar was low, obviously!
Everyone have a great day!

What is this thing called blogging that all these people are doing? It’s been so long, I almost forgot how to blog! Well I am back now, it has been an intense two weeks, a lot of things going on, working on a lot of great events that I will let you all know about shortly.
I have successfully gone a full week with the CGMS and I love it. I don’t have it on today, but I do love it, however I have a few more questions for all of you. I was giving these things when I received my supplies, I don’t remember their name, but it is something sort of like a transmitter adhesive patch. But it came with no directions and I have no idea what it is used for at all. It has stickiness on both sides, so that confuses the heck out of me. I have just been using the IV Prep 3000 to cover it and that has seemed to be working fine. My question about that is this, what should I use to get the stickiness off of my skin, you know the dark colored sticky stuff that stays on your skin after you take it off?
My next question is actually about the infusion set side of it, I wear the quick set. The IV prep 3000 is good to put over the infusion set if I am, lets say going down to the Phillies – Marlins game on a Sunday afternoon at 1:30 to watch my defending World Series Champs (that’s this Sunday by the way), and it is hot and my infusion set may fall out (which happened at last year’s game). I wouldn’t have any reason to disconnect the infusion set, so the IV Prep is fine, but is there something out there like the Iv 3000, but it has a circle cut out in it, so I can just put it over the infusion set and still be abl to connect / disconnect the tubing whenever I wanted?
All in all the CGMS was great. I loved just pulling out my pump to see what my sugar was, and the calibration was surprisingly perfect!
I look forward to hearing answers to everything, and I appreciate it.
Thanks.

Ahhhh…what a relaxing weekend it was. Friday night there was a Panthers game, and we lost, which that sucked but no big deal. Saturday morning my girlfriend and I went down to Ft. Lauderdale to spend the whole day at the beach and pool.
We had a voucher for a free night in a hotel so we decided to just use it to get away for the night and relax from the hectic schedules we have been living. I brought about 4-5 infusion sets with me just in case. I started to sweat so much at the beach on Saturday that I could feel my infusion set falling out. I tested and I was about 110 and I knew I wouldn’t be more than an hour or so longer at the beach without going to the room, so I decided to just take the site out.
Well we decided to go to the pool after that and relax and read a little bit, but my blood sugar did not go crazy at all. Once I finally went back to the room and tested again it was 185. So I put another site in and it was off to Hooters to watch the Michigan St. game.
Now, I’m going to speak briefly about how great that game was before I talk about last night’s game. Even though last night was a near massacre, it still feels good to have a team go to the National Championship when nobody thought that they could do it. I had all the confidence in the world in them (that’s what happens when you watch every single one of their games), so I knew how well they could play.
After getting home from all that beach and fun on Sunday, it was time for another Panthers game, a big game in fact against the Penguins from that other sports city in Pennsylvania (I’m originally from Philly, so that’s why I mention it like that). My blood sugar went a little low during the game, mainly because I wanted to body check the kid behind me! It was great watching their best player, Sid the Kid (Sidney Crosby) get beat up by one of our players. Tonight is another huge game againstthe Philadelphia Flyers, yes the team I liked when I was a little kid, but I grew out of hockey for about 10 years, that’s how I became a Panthers fan.
Well, about diabetes…. I received my script for my next A1C test, so I will have to schedule that sometime soon.

Started eating healthy and exercising again yesterday. I had a salad for lunch and some chicken with very little pasta on the side last night for dinner. I played tennis for a little over an hour last night. I used to play lightly against my girlfriend, but she has become really good, so I have to play a lot harder and sweat a lot more and run around the court a lot more.
Some big hockey games coming up this weekend, along with a big basketball game for my Spartans of Michigan State. That should be really good on my blood sugar levels. Speaking of blood sugar levels, I have to set up my next A1C bloodwork soon. Last time I got it done was the very end of December so I am due for it right about now. I don’t think the number is going to be that great, because I had a lot of highs this past month, and I haven’t been eating really healthy.
Well you all have a splendid day!

I have been doing a horrible job of actually posting on my blog, I am going to start doing it a lot more. I just find that a lot of times, I don’t have many diabetes related things to post about everyday. Sunday night I actually had another high that was pretty bad. It took me a long time to bring it back down. My meter just read, “HI”. I took 25 units of insulin and tried to just go back to sleep and finally after waking up several times to go to the bathroom, I got it down to a manageable level.
Other than that not much else has been going on. Just working a lot, lot, lot. I went to a clinic today to help out with Diabetes Alert Day. There was free glucose screenings, blood pressure screenings, and neuropathy checks. I was helping hand out “Goodie-bags” to those that decided to sit through the lectures and the screenings. It is good to be there to help out with these free screenings to alert people that they may be at risk for diabetes.
This weekend is the local JDRF walk, I’ve been collecting some money, so I am looking forward to being one of the top individual fundraisers. Can’t wait.

I went to the driving range this weekend, and it was the first time that my pump gave me a problem when I went. It was pretty hot out, so I was sweating, so one time I ripped into one with my driver and my pump fell out of my pocket and pulled my infusion set right out. But I only had a quarter of bucket of balls left, so I kept on hitting. As soon as I got back to my car, I tested and my sugar was about 150, so I knew I was good until I got home. Once I got home, I took a shower, replaced the infusion set, tested again and was 185, not too bad. I ate lunch and tested 2 hours later, and I was back down to about 120-ish. I played a round of golf one time where I disconnected everytime I walked up to the tee and to the ball, and it was just really annoying, so I just trained myself to play with the pump on.
My other blood sugar scare was later that night however. I went to the Florida Panthers game, and when I got there I felt really thirsty so tested my sugar and I was about 375, how the hell did this happen I haven’t ate anything for like 4 hours. I was starving and had to eat something, so I didn’t know what to do. So I took 25 units of insulin (the max bolus on my pump) and then as soon as that one was done, I took anothe 25. I know it’s not the best solution, but I didn’t have anymore pens, so I had to do something! Tested after the first period, down to 250, tested after the second period, down to 110, tested after the game before we got on the Turnpike, dropping to about 75, so I ate some Skittles for the 20 minute ride home.
Later that night we went out to a local hangout, Hurricane’s in Delray, and my sugars were fine, but I started to feel a little low again, so luckily my amazing girlfriend had some Skittles handy in her purse. Her purse fits my little meter and skittles perfectly!
Saturday was a pretty eventful blood sugar day!
