Bowling and Blogging Monday 6

July 7th, 2008 by Chris S

This is week 6 of the Miller Lite Fun league, and so far it has been no far at all, being whooped every week.  This weekend was a crazy one.  Witnessed two fights on Friday at the bar we were at by the beach waiting for the fireworks.  The fireworks sparked by people on the patio bar were better then real fireworks.  Two different fights right next to us broke out and and security came and had to break things up.  It was great.  Drunk kids, I tell ya, dress ‘em up but ya can’t take them out!

Anyway, my parents will be coming down here in less than a month, along with my brother and his wife.  They will be coming down for my graduation.  I can’t wait to just get that over with, if it was up to me I wouldn’t even walk, I am just doing it for my mom.  I need to make sure I have some skittles or some other candy with me to make sure that I don’t get a really bad low in the middle of the ceremony.  That would not be good.

My morning sugars are still really out of whack and it is really starting to scare me.  I can’t get these down for anything, and it is becoming a bad situation.  I am happy when I wake up with a blood sugar between 200-300!  This is ridiculous, but I have tried so many different things.

Any suggestions, please help!

Bye Bye Insurance and Hello Student Loans

May 22nd, 2008 by Chris S

Bye Bye Insurance.  Effective June 1, 2008 I will no longer be covered for my pump supplies, just my insulin.  I will still get my insulin though, I don’t understand insurance.  My medication is covered, but the supplies to the machine I need for the medication I don’t get covered.  What would I do without my back up company I have been using for my diabetic supplies that I have had to order on the side because my insurance tells me how often I need to test a day.  I started out volunteering and helping them out with local events and fundraisers and now do more stuff with them.

For the past several months I have been saying to myself, I am so lucky to have insurance because I don’t know what I would do if I was in the situation that the people calling in, were in…. ordering their supplies with their own money.  I really don’t know what I am going to do.  Graduating college isn’t as hyped up as it seems.  You don’t get your degree in the mail for like 2 months, you get hit with $100,000 student loans, your parents’ insurance coverage plans drop you, and you have to work full time to try and cover those bills.  Lucky to have graduated huh?

Any suggestions, help, comments, been through it already?

Highs, Highs, Highs,

April 23rd, 2008 by Chris S

Once again, another night of reaching the 400 level.  This is two nights in a row.  I don’t know why either.  The first night it was because the infusion set was leaking.  Right where it connects to the pump, it was leaking, this is about the 4-5 time this has happened in the past couple months.  I went to the movies last night to watch the free preview of the “Young at Heart”  I don’t want to give my opinion because I do not like to talk bad about many things.

I had my Sour Patch Kids like usual, but thats not the reason why the sugar went high, because I always splurge on them when I go to the movies.  I don’t know what it was, but I used my insulin pen to cover the high because it seems like the pump takes a very long time to correct.  My sleeping patterns have been thrown off big time because I have an exam tonight, if I do bad, I will not pass the class and I will have to retake it in the summer in order to graduate.  I am very nervous, and have been up all night the past few days.  I am at work, trying to study during my breaks.

Wish me luck!!

Bowling and Blogging Friday 3

March 28th, 2008 by Chris S

Getting back to my bowling and blogging Friday’s, I  believe this is number 3.  I have missed 2 out of the last 4 Friday’s because I was out of town, but yet I still have to pay for my bowling.  So last night, I ate chinese food for lunch and dinner and tested my sugar at midnight and it was 300, what a surprise. I corrected and woke up in the morning and my level was at 212, a little better then the last few days.  I guess I just have to start waking up in the middle of the night again and test my sugar to see where the highs are starting or coming from.

Tomorrow is the local JDRF walk and after that, a day of nothing but school work.  It has been beautiful all week long and then the weekend comes and it is rainy all weekend, isn’t that great?  I don’t mind this weekend, because like I said I have a lot of schoolwork that I have to do.

Michigan State plays tonight, hopefully Monday’s blog title will read “Michigan State Spartans to the Final Four!”

Long Day of Highs

March 12th, 2008 by Chris S

I still have not fully corrected my high blood sugar numbers in the morning.  I do not know what else to do.  I have taken everybody’s suggestions.  I guess I will just continue to increase my basal throughout the night.  Then today I had pancakes and sausage, and my sugar didn’t come down from 300 until around noon. In fact, I just reminded myself to test right now, please hold….124, not bad.

Anyway, I have been dieting a little bit, well eating less.  I haven’t gone full blown into the excercising part of it yet. I do a little push ups and sit ups at night when I finally get home at 10 at night.  I’m trying to get myself to start running in the morning, but its tough when I go to bed at 1:00 a.m. and get up at 6:30 a.m.  I know I need to get more sleep, but I honestly don’t have time to.  By the time I get home, I eat something, relax for a little, and then start my homework.  Can’t wait to be done with school, it will make my health a lot better.

One Test Down, A million more to go

February 21st, 2008 by Chris S

Well last night I had another test, so I only have more exam to take, but the million more tests to go I am speaking of is on my fingers of course.  So that’s a million more test strips that will somehow appear all over my house even though I swore I threw them away.  Am I the only one that everytime you clean up a certain area of the house you find more used test strips laying there.  I wish finding money was that easy too.

Anyway, there was a birthday at work today and an ice cream cake was brought in, which I can not turn down, so I just had a small part.  I only ate the bottom half, you know the half with the chocolate and those little chocolate crusty things, mmm best part of it.

Thursday night is also usually chinese food night with my girlfriend before class, but not tonight because we already went on Monday night instead.  I’m excited about bowling tomorrow night, we got our butts whipped last week.  We just weren’t on, but more on that tomorrow with my bowling and blogging Friday’s!

Can’t Live Without Coffee

February 20th, 2008 by Chris S

I have been trying so hard to cut back on my coffee intake, but I am realizing I can’t live without coffee.  I have heard so many different things about coffee and diabetes over the last 4 years, so I decided to do my own research on how coffee affected my own body and not everybody else’s.  I found that it did not do anything abnormal to my blood sugars.

However, over the last couple of weeks there has been more news about coffee being bad, so I decided to take a break from it.  Let me explain the week I have in front of me and you’ll see why I can’t live without coffee.  Keep in my everything I am about to say is in addition to working 40 hours a week.

Work from 9-5, class from 7-10.  Test on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.  10 page paper (not started) due Sunday night.   6 page (not started) paper due Monday night.  1 hour presentation along with full detailed 20 page business plan due Tuesday.  2 page along with 10 minute presentation due next Wednesday.  Now all this work I am supposed to do between 10 p.m. and 8 a.m.  But what about that thing called sleep, aren’t I supposed to be doing that also?

All this and I am trying to do it without coffee, I can’t do it anymore.  It would be nice to be able to enjoy a weekend, but not this one for sure.  And I am sure it will be 90 degrees, no clouds, perfect beach day both days this weekend, while I am sitting inside doing homework.
