I Was Thankful for No High Blood Sugars on Thanksgiving

November 26th, 2007 by Chris S

What a crazy, crazy holiday weekend.  I have not even looked at a computer screen for almost 5 days.  That’s pretty nice though, to not have to worry about e-maill after e-mail.  Anyway, this was my 4th Thanksgiving after being diagnosed, and the first I did not have a blood sugar level over 200 at all on Thanksgiving day.

At 9:30 p.m Thanksgiving night, I decided to camp out in front of Circuit City for the nice 50″ television for about $800.  I stayed up all night long, and my sugars weren’t that bad then either.  They were all over the place, but not too high and not too low.  I had a lot of candy with me though because I knew it was going to be a long wait in the line to check out.  And it was, over an hour in line waiting, and did not get the television I wanted anyway.

And on a final note, as I said in my last post, I said that my Eagles would beat the Patriots, and in my mind, we did.  We had the game won, and we lost that game, they did not beat us, we beat ourselves.

Thanksgiving Dinner Tips for People with Diabetes.

November 16th, 2007 by Chris S

Thanksgiving dinner, I cannot wait.  I am trying to drop about 5-7 pounds before Thanksgiving rolls around because I know I will put on close to that amount on that day.  I have been reading over so many tips for a diabetes Thanksgiving, and some of them are good, but then some I know are just unrealistic for me.

One of the things I can do is bring my own sugar free dessert that way I know for a fact there will be something sugar free for me.  Well I am not a big dessert fan anyway, good thing since I’m not supposed to be eating them.

Some other websites I read says to eat before you go to the big meal.  Why would I want to eat something before Thanksgiving dinner, thats why its Thanksgiving, its a one time a year event that I want to eat that special food.  And a lot of it.

Well, if anybody has some other tips on how I can enjoy my Thanksgiving dinner without having to worry about all kinds of crazy stuff, please let me know.  My idea is to just make sure I have A LOT of insulin.  I have some pens for emergencies when the pump is not working, so maybe I can use those.
