No Time Anymore to Do Anything

August 26th, 2009 by Chris S

Haven’t  been posting a lot lately for multiple reasons.  For one, I have been extremely busy at work during the day and don’t have an opportunity to post anymore during the day, so I have to try and make time in the morning around 6-7 a.m. so it’s been tough.  At night I have been exercising and coaching football, so it doesn’t leave as much time during night as well.  Finally, I have been working on the new blog, which is almost finished.  I’ve also been spending A LOT of time reading the new health care bill and all the gossip going around about it.

That will be the featured posts on my new blog.  For those of you that actually do read my blog, please bare with me over the next week while I try to re-manage my time and make time for everything during the day. Help me out a little bit however.

What time do you all usually read others blogs?  What time do you usually post yours?  Comment with your @Twitter accounts, I would love to follow you all.  New contact information is below:

Have a great day everybody!

Blood Sugars, Blood Sugars, Blood Sugars

August 19th, 2009 by Chris S

Blood sugars, blood sugars, blood sugars.  This is all I am asked about all the time.  It is very typical for a question to come up in the morning as, lets say “Good morning, how’s your sugar?”  Or “Hey, have your sugars been good?”  To me, it doesn’t affect me, I’m actually glad that people ask and care and are aware of diabetes and what it is and what people need to do in order to manage it.  Do any of you get mad or annoyed when people constantly ask you questions about your blood sugars?

Anyway, off to another subject.  I haven’t been getting as much sleep lately because I have been up all damn night working on the new website.  I will be so damn excited when it is finally over.  My blood sugars have actually been better in the morning though.  Maybe because since I am up later I am testing and able to manage them at 2 a.m. compared to when I am sleeping and I am not able to manage them.

Well my spaghettie is a little past done I think, so I better go eat my dinner

Have a great night ya’ll.

Cancer Hits Home

August 6th, 2009 by Chris S

I am starting to get ready to leave fore New York and then home this weekend.  I promised my doctor I would wear my CGM all this month, and I have yet to put it on once, so I wanted to wear it the whole time I was home.  Plus so I can show my family what is is.  I haven’t seen my family since December and I didn’t get the CGM until January or February.  Has anybody worn it through the security checkpoints at airports?  I don’t want any alarms going off and then they see this weird looking object taped to my body.

This trip was a big surprise for my whole family.  I am going to New York for a conference from Sunday – Tuesday afternoon, so I am taking a bus to PA and staying until the following Sunday.  However, our family has been hit with horrible news.  My grandmother (my only grandparent still alive and my closest grandparent) has been diagnosed with cancer.  She also has type 2 diabetes.   She has a few spots in her stomach and a few in her chest.  She starts chemo this upcoming Monday and they doctor said that her chances are very likely to beat it, but I don’t know anything about the disease except bad things.

My mom (this is my mom’s mom who was diagnosed) is going crazy as well as the rest of her sisters and brother.  My mom had planned on taking vacation days all this week to help out with doctor’s visits etc.  If she did that, then she would have no days left for next week when I come home and she will be extremely uspet if I was home and she had to work the whole time.  So I had to call my dad last night and tell him I was coming home.  He was shocked and surprised and had no idea that I had this planned for 6 months, but I am glad that I did have it planned.

No time to worry about the little things in life when theres situations like this happening.

I hope you all have a great day.

Back to Work After A Wonderful CWD Trip

July 13th, 2009 by Chris S

Back into the swing of things.  Monday morning at the office.  I flew back in, yes I flew from Orlando to Ft. Lauderdale, Friday evening.  For those of you not familiar with the area, it is a 3 hour drive.  So getting to the airport 2 hours early, a 40 minute flight, equals almost the same time that it would have taken to drive home, but that’s a different story.  For those of you who were at CWD in Disney, welcome back, if you’re even back yet.  I hope you had a fun and had a chance to shoot at our mini hoop and win the balls and goodies we were giving away.

I was able to meet Sara and Kerri for the first time, very briefly, but it was an honor to finally see the people whose blogs get me through the day.  Also had a chance to talk with Charlie for a little bit too, not too long though, he’s a busy guy.

Last night I “tweeted“, I’m still not comfortable using that word, anywho, I tweeted about starting my no excuses week.  So far I am half way through my first day and I am still good to go.  I had about a 1/4 cup of pasta and a small bowl of pineapples.  I probably shouldn’t have eaten the whole bowl of pineapples, but it’s better then more pasta and other nasty food.

First Coaches Meeting, Packing for CWD

July 7th, 2009 by Chris S

Tonight I have my first coaches meeting for the upcoming football season.  I must admit, I am a little nervous here since this is the first time meeting these people, and well several of them are former NFL players.  But beyond that, do I tell them tonight that I am diabetic or do I just let them find out on their own?  I’d rather be safe, so I will mention it tonight I believe.

Then after that, I must go home and do some laundry and pack up for Children with Diabetes, Friends for Life Conference.  I will be there Wednesday evening, Thursday all day, and Friday until later afternoon.  So if you are going to be there, stop by ADW’s table and say hello and introduce yourself.  I have not met too many fellow d-bloggers, so it would be nice to put a face to face to your blog and picture you may have up there.

I’m posting late in the day so I don’t really have much time to talk about anything, so I hope you all have a great day.

Lets Clear the Air Here Today

June 29th, 2009 by Chris S

I’m going to take the time today to clear some things up, sort of like a little refresher course for those that may have come into reading my blog a little later.  I am a type 1 since 2004.  I have been wearing a pump since December of 2005.  I have an ok A1C level, but not the best.  None of that seems to matter I guess except for the next fact about me, I work at American Diabetes Wholesale.

So, lets get things straight now.  This blog is not a promotion or advertisement for ADW.  Up until now, I don’t believe I ever said the company’s name in a post because this blog has nothing to do with ADW, this blog has something to do with my life and living with diabetes.  I first started out volunteering at ADW because I met them at a JDRF walk in Boca Raton and I loved what they did.  I saw something different in them, then in any other company I had previously seen.  Things worked out and I was offered a paid position at ADW.  Once again, big deal!

So, now that things are clear, again, if you still have concerns, questions comments, please let me know.  I never would have assumed this was a big deal to people where I worked, I thought having diabetes gave us all something in common, but for some, that must not be the case.  Please e-mail me your concerns at lifeofadiabetic@gmail.com.

To those of you who are here to read my blog as a type 1, then thank you and I will continue to post my own personal life and my personal feelings in this blog.  If you want to talk to me about my company or my job, don’t do it in this blog, e-mail or call my office information.

Once again, thank you and I hope you all have a wonderful day.
