Finally Back from Vacation

December 3rd, 2008 by Chris S

Finally, back from vacation, well Monday night I was.  What a disaster.  I was supposed to fly back home on Sunday, but the weather was bad so there was multiple delays in different airports.  Long story short, I went to the airport on Sunday, sat there for about 2-3 hours, realized that I wasn’t getting back to Florida Sunday night, so I had my dad pick me back up, spent another night at my parent’s house and then flew back home to Florida on Monday.  Then it was back to work yesterday and today.  I am still trying to get back into the flow of things.  I can’t really start my diet yet either because I am still feeling like I am on the go right now.  I’m trying to unpack, clean up, and get it all together.

I have another dilemna now.  I have an appointment with my educator on 12/23, but now I don’t think that I can fly home until 12/23, so thats the only time that I will be able to see her, so I don’t know exactly what I am going to be able to do.  While I was home, my sugar ran a little high.  I was happy with how often I tested myself, but I wasn’t always happy with the results.  It was mainly because I was eating a lot and then I was taking so much insulin that my infusion set was starting to leak because it was too much insulin going into one part of my body.  I couldn’t help it though, all that great food just tasted amazing.

Well, time to get back on the diet again.

Happy World Diabetes Day!

November 14th, 2008 by Chris S

Well, nothing special going on today to celebrate world diabetes day.  There has been a million other blogs out there celebrating it, and talking about it, and doing everything, so I won’t waste all of your time by doing the same.

I actually don’t have much time to write one today because of how long I spent reading all the other ones.  It reminded me of a sports team that has been horrible for 10 years, then all of a sudden they make the play-offs and now everyone is on board cheering for them and hoping they win.  Except in this case, people who haven’t posted in a year, since last November 14 are all up on the blogosphere this year.

Everyone have a great World Diabetes Day!

Remembering Those That We Lost

September 11th, 2008 by Chris S

In honor of September 11 today I would like to dedicate my post to those that we lost on September 11.  It is a day that we all will remember forever.  To all those that lost their lives on that horrific day, and those brave men and women who risked their lives to save those innocent people…. Thank You.

God Bless America and Let Freedom Ring!

I Almost Forgot How to Blog

July 22nd, 2008 by Chris S

It has been so long since the last time I posted, I almost forgot how to do it.  Plus my computer is running a little funky on me today, so my font is really messed up and I don’t know why.  Things have been crazy lately, which is why I haven’t posted in a while.

First, let me start with a good story.  This past Friday night I was out wit my girlfriend, her brother and his girlfriend and we were at a local bar in south Florida and we saw this guy sitting at the bar and I said, “Man, he looks just like that Adam guy who won Big Brother.”  Next thing you know, he turns around, and guess who, it was him!  She wanted a picture with him so bad, but I didnt want to be a groupie so I didnt ask, but her brother talked to him for a while, and he was really cool and he comes out to that bar all the time, so we will see him again.

Then on Saturday we went to the Marlins and Phillies game.  We were right at the right-center fence, literally, the first row.  We  caught about 4-5 balls during batting practice and then throughout the game, got a couple of balls from the players.  Finally today I have nothing to do after work, I can go home and relax.

I have everything completed that I need to do for my new apartment, I just have to wait on the HOA and get things rolling with that.  I can’t wait to get out of the place that I am in now.  Crime central is what the complex should be called.  Well, now that I just started to remember what blogging is all about, I have to end this post.  Catch  you all tomorrow!

A Diabetic 4th of July

July 3rd, 2008 by Chris S

Let me take time today to remember the great fight for independence and all the lives lost.  I usually spend 4th of July at home, near Philadelphia, so I like to visit all of the historical sights that revolved around the independence of this great country.  I am taking the time today to do this because of course tomorrow is filled with alcohol, food, alcohol, and fireworks.  This will also be the first 4th of July that my girlfriend is 21 and can legally drink.

I will be calling back home to all of my friends from high school that I haven’t spoken to in months.  They have a huge cookout and party every year on the 3rd and I will be missing it this year.  Hopefully it does not rain tomorrow because I plan on being at a beach all day and I don’t feel like being soaking wet all day long.

I must get back to work and end this blog already, but please do me one favor tomorrow.  In the middle of a beer, hot dog, and fireworks, just take a few moments to remember the reason you are free now to do all of those things as you please!

A Week Full of Family Vacation

May 15th, 2008 by Chris S

Sorry I haven’t blogged in a while my parents came down to visit me last week, so I was swamped, and I was only stopping by the office for a little bit so I have been catching up on everything here.  It was fun to have my parent’s come down for a week, it was too short though, I will admit that.  I had my blood sugar reminder for a week also (Mom).  “I haven’t seen you test all day, you better test, what was your sugar, don’t eat that it’s too much sugar, CHRISTOPHER!!”

I still had the really high morning sugars though the whole week, so she didn’t like those.  I have raised my 3:00 a.m. basal to 2.0, it will probably have to go higher even still.  Which we all know what that means, more insulin used, faster I have to re-order my supplies, sooner another insurance company tells me know, lower my bank statement goes because I have to pay out of pocket for them.  Turning 23 was cool at first, until you get those letters from the insurance company telling your parent’s that you are no longer covered.

Anyway enough with that.  Today’s free Dunkin Donuts coffee is just… well fantastic.  They are going to do it every Thursday for next 3-4 weeks.  Is anybody else this darn excited about it.  Also, who else is excited that the Philadelphia Eagles’ mini camp is coming up within the month.  If you are an Eagles fan and you read my blog, please let me know, because I am going to make a nice little section for all of us.  I have a little nickname from friends, they call me “Diabetic Dawkins.”  My parents haven’t seen my apartment in a really long time, since 3 weeks after I moved in, so they were amazed by how much Eagles stuff I had.  Blankets, pillows, pictures, posters, plates, cups, you name it, its there.

Well, I must be gone…. Fly Eagles Fly!!

More Stress : Finals Cancelled because of shooting on my FAU Campus

April 30th, 2008 by Chris S

So with only two finals to go, a little interuption has taken place.  I’m sure a lot of you have already heard on the news about the shooting that occurred last night at my college, Florida Atlantic University in south Florida.  Campus is still on lock down and that means no classes, which means no finals.  What a way to add to the stress I am under already.  Luckily, nobody was injured and good thing I decided not to try and pull an all nighter at the library last night because it was locked down until 5 a.m.  I feel bad for the students who are scheduled to graduate on this Friday, because they may have finals today and tomorrow and who knows when those will be rescheduled for.

I know this isn’t too much of a “diabetic blog”, but I just wanted to talk about the new emergency alert system that our school, FAU, has put into place.  After the Va Tech shootings they were designing a new alert system, and I would say it was successful. Within 2 minutes police were on the scene, a campus wide siren was sounding, along with a PA announcement throughout the whole campus alerting students to stay indoors.  E-mails and posts on the website were sent right away.  Good thing for Facebook also, because it was all over there within minutes.  I may have harsh feelings against FAU right now for cancelling the summer class I needed because of budget cuts, but if this is where the money went, then it was money well spent in my eyes.

I am Remodeling my Site, Please Bare with Me

March 3rd, 2008 by Chris S

I am in the middle of  remodeling my website and adding and deleting some features.  In this process I will be updating my blogroll again.  The last time I attempted to do this it was not very successful.  I have been planning to make changes for a while, but have not had chances to.

Once again if you would like to be included on the blogroll, please just let me know and I should have it completed by the end of the week.

Back and Better Then Ever

February 7th, 2008 by Chris S

Good thing I test my blood sugar more often than I have posted on my blog.  I have been a little set off by a couple things that has forced me not to be able to blog as frequently, but I know I’ve said this before, I am back for good this time.  I will blog everyday for the rest of the month, I can guruantee it.

Things have been going good with my sugar levels.  I had one day where I somewhere went up to about 450, and it took me a long time to cure it.  I didn’t eat anything else, but took a lot of insulin, but it was still taking forever, but then I was starving and had to eat, so I took even more insulin.  And, of course, my sugars went lower than the video girls in Flo-Rida’s video.

Other than that things have been good.  School and work is hectic.  I’m back to 13 hour work/school days again, and studying and doing homework on Fridays and Saturday’s.

Finally a chance to blog…

January 21st, 2008 by Chris S

January 7, 2008, the date of my last post.  That is horrible, and I apologize I haven’t updated you on my boring, although extremely busy life.  To sum it all up, 40 hours of work, plus 5 classes, sound like I have any time to sleep, eat, or even breathe?  But one thing that I do have time to do, which is what I am the most proud of, I am continuing to test my sugars at least 5 times a day.  When I was this busy in the past, I never took the time to test.

I feel very out of the loop, I need to take some time to catch up on all my other fellow d-bloggers.  I’m going to take this time now to start reading, but for those very few who did enjoy my daily posts, they will be back
